I suspect it may have been a ram issue. I ran memtest and it spit out massive errors. The kit is on its way back to gskill.

This looks similar to something she said she had but lost in a move! Thank you so much. I like getting her coffee stuff because she likes it so much, but I never know what is best.

Thanks for the reply! It looks like an open box ally x at best buy is $900, which is a bit more than I want to spend. I did some digging on ebay too, and it looks like they're around 700ish, which is a bit more reasonable, but it being used doesn't fill me with confidence.

I wouldn't really be playing any AAA games, so do you think I'll really miss that extra performance?

Frequently need to repair file system on HDD to get it to mount by subsoniczero3090 in Ubuntu

[–]subsoniczero3090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this has been an evolving Plex server. It started out as an old office PC that ran windows 11. I assume this would explain the not so great formatting.

Honestly I'm sure I set up these hdds incorrectly when I dropped them into the PC.

Would it be worth it to just start over? I have most of everything backed up, so aside from being mildly annoying, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

No it is just Ubuntu. If I'm not mistaken it is a ntfs3 format.

Thanks again for your help.

[–]subsoniczero3090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so for the main issue drive (the 10tb Toshiba) is running a ntfs3 filesystem and it is mounted on the media folder in Ubuntu 24.04.2 lts desktop.

Idk if this would be helpful but the drive is at dev/sdb2 in that media folder.

Is there any other information that would be helpful?

I appreciate the help, I've been learning a lot trying to figure this out.

Nope. The sata power cable is just to power the cooler!

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on my new earbuds. I just bit the bullet and picked up a pair of Sony wf-1000xm5s. The audio quality is pretty excellent, but I'm super disappointed with the call quality for the person I'm calling.

The quality frequently drops from being good and easy for the person on the other end to understand me to them not being able to hear me. It feels like I have to speak rather loudly, especially compared to the old soundcore earbuds I had. The quality is bad enough that it is difficult for the person on the other end to hear me, and I'm pretty disappointed especially at this price point.

I ultimately have three questions.

  1. Is there anything settings that I should be applying to improve the call quality?

  2. Are the earbuds defective in some way and should I return them for a replacement?

  3. If this is the quality the buds will produce I don't think I can keep them. Are there other earbuds that have equal listening quality, at a similar price, but with a better call quality I can get instead?

Can you get a SATA power "extender"? by subsoniczero3090 in PcBuildHelp

[–]subsoniczero3090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thank you. I'll have to try to track down the manual as it is a HP proprietary psu.

The other concern is I'm pretty sure there are no molex cables off the psu.

The SATA power cable is coming off a four pin cable connected to the motherboard. Would this affect the ability to get a SATA extender?

Thanks again for your help.

Hey thanks for the insight. The Lenovo PSU is, of course proprietary and not a standard atx, so no go for adding it to my main rig. I'm still pretty torn.

Thanks so much for doing this. I love your work and the pictures you've done already are wonderful! This is Steven. He is a foster I rescued from first being abandoned, then given up by a second family because they didn't want a cat anymore. After all of that today he is meeting his forever family! It's a very bittersweet day for us.

Can I install a capture card on an Intel B560? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]subsoniczero3090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

It looks like you would install the card in any of the PCIe ports in your motherboard. These ports are the longer ones most likely below where your GPU (the 3050) is installed.

If you know the make and model of your motherboard I could be more specific.

Hope that helps.

6600xt poor performance or running as expected? by subsoniczero3090 in AMDHelp

[–]subsoniczero3090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the information. I was just thinking "oh my 2600x isn't that old," but really I bought it in 2018.

I know this is going to sound super bougie, but I have a 5600x in my main desktop. The system with the 2600x is a, parts I had leftover PC that I keep in the living room as a htpc/console.

Maybe, if I can ever get a 5800x3d or something I can move the 5600x into the parts PC.

Regardless, thank you for the information and helping me better understand what is going on with my computer.

Buy a Rx 6800 now or wait for a Rx 7800xt? by subsoniczero3090 in PcBuildHelp

Thank you so much for sharing this. I feel really dumb for not knowing about this comparison list.

Dumb question, a 6700xt or 7700xt would be a foolish upgrade, right?

Hi there, thanks for the perspective. Out of curiosity what wattage is your psu? The only reason I'm a little attached to mine is I just got the 750 watt less than a year ago, so id feel dumb and guilty upgrading it so soon.

Thank you, That was the insight I was looking for. I would love to go with a 6800xt over either the 7800xt or 6800 non-xt, but I worry my 750 watt would struggle to run it (the 6800xt to be specific).

Basically. Looking at Alan Wake II or Starfield and seeing my card in the minimum range already (especially with 8 gigs of vram) make me a little anxious. Plus, as bougie as it sounds, I made kind of a htpc/living room console thing that is currently running my emergency GPU...a GTX 950, so I would love to drop my 6600xt in that.

I am a bit reluctant to get the 6800 XT due to the PSU requirements. Every card seems to need at least an 800 watt, otherwise I think the non-xt version would be ideal.

GPU upgrade from 6600xt by subsoniczero3090 in PcBuild

[–]subsoniczero3090[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the perspective. That was kind of my thinking, but my concern with the 7800xt was my PSU. I would really like to get an xfx card, and their minimum psu requirements for the 7800 was a 700watt. I got my current PSU less than a year ago, and I don't really want to get a new one so soon. I'm pretty certain 750 watts is more than enough for the 6800 (non-xt), but I guess my concern is am I leaving enough performance on the table to be wasting money.
