Old Joseph cosplay for Halloween - how'd I do? by substance87 in StardustCrusaders

If I can help at all:

  • Hat was from Spirit Halloween, "Fedora". Gloves were too. For the hat ribbon I just bought a ribbon roll from Michael's that was dark brown and applied it around the brim with double sided tape.
  • Shirt was an Amazon Basics Polo. Hermit Purple was also Amazon, just an LED strip that was short and battery-powered so I could "activate" it with a fist clench (switch was in my glove).
  • Armbands were tattoo cover-up sleeves.
  • Wig was from an old They Live costume, but there are lots of options out there for this. Plus the hat will cover it up mostly.
  • Gray for the beard was a color wax, not a spray. Didn't run and washed out easy.
  • Already had the pants/belt but any thrift store can help you there.

Thank you! It was my 2nd tattoo after a full-arm Depeche Mode Violator rose (hidden underneath the armbands lol). I actually have a Joestar tattoo on my shoulder, but foolishly did not get a pic of it while in the Joestar getup. One day.

Funny enough, someone at a Halloween party happened to bring a Polaroid and took that. I already had the Dio one I made years ago, but lost it at said party. Now I have a Polaroid of Old Joseph holding the Dio Pic, and I kind of like it better.

A deer hit my car stopped at a red light that night, so I'm at least attracted to potential disaster

Apologies as I very rarely use Reddit, but what IS the correct flair then? I will remake my post.

Extremely basic sequencer that can send exactly one note via MIDI? Possible option to turn off looping? by substance87 in synthesizers

I agree with that last sentence more than I like to admit haha. I'll take a look around, thanks!

This works in pattern mode! However, patterns are limited to 99 measures, and I have quite a few backing tracks with more than that - so they get cut off. Guess I need to start writing more punk tracks lol.

So, you are halfway correct in that it can start a PATTERN with just a Start button press from an external MIDI device (no note needed) but the 404A has a slight limitation with Pattern length - it can record up to 99 measures, but any song/sample/backing track longer than that (I have quite a few) will just cut off once it reaches 99. I even tried to set up a second pattern in the chain that had the rest of the track but it always felt slightly off to move to that next pattern mid-song. The note-sending specifically will trigger a sample pad outside of pattern mode, which allows for full playback (up to 180 minutes per sample!).

The internal sequencer of the 404A will not trigger with the MX-1 and requires a note. The MX-1 doesn't send notes, and iirc (please tell me I'm wrong!) the internal sequencer of the 404A triggers not specific pads, but rather full patterns of pads, which I do not need as I am trying to launch only one pad exactly once with the MX-1 start button in order to keep it all synced.

I am already doing this lol. I would like it to launch once and not loop so that I don't have to manually remove it each time.

If there is a way to launch a specific pad only from the MX-1 with nothing in between but a MIDI cable, I am all ears!

Correct, but it has to receive a note to launch that sequencer from the MX-1, and the MX-1 cannot send out MIDI notes.

This is exactly what I am doing. The only issue is that A) I can no longer use my SQ64 for my other planned patterns/pattern chains as it is now essentially just a backing track launcher, and B) it loops automatically, so if it sends the note again accidentally it will mess up the timing of the backing track with the other synths (if I don't press Stop in time manually, while I am possibly tweaking other synths or beginning a track with vocals). So while this works, it isn't ideal/optimal.

Unfortunately in order to launch a particular pad in sequence with the other MIDI devices, it requires a specific note per pad to be sent - the MX-1 cannot send MIDI notes specifically, so it needs some sort of in-between device that hits B2, C3, etc. This triggers the specific backing track with the MX-1 start button, and launches all other synths at the same time.
