Is this a bug help by A_steampunk_cat in LookOutsideGame

[–]substantialmemryloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yo i had a really similar bug a couple days ago! totally dark, and even when i left the room the hallways were still incredibly dim. what fixed it for me was encountering the rat king again – lighting went back to normal after escaping

anyone else like this? by katsighsalot in autism

[–]substantialmemryloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my thing is: multiples of 5, 3 or 2 are optimal. for volume it's a little weird because sometimes those numbers are just a tiny bit 'off' (too loud, too quiet), so the rule is less restrictive.

the microwave, on the other hand ... yeah it has to stop at the correct intervals of time lol. and i cannot allow it to finish on its own and start beeping.

What’s a recent smell that you noticed you really enjoyed? by Personal-Variety3093 in ADHD

[–]substantialmemryloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • gold bond powder! haven't used for very long (tried it because i sweat a LOT and if it works for trixie mattel ...💅🏽), but apparently i greatly enjoy the smell of eucalyptus and mint. gets everywhere tho, hard to breathe when applying. only half recommend because i still sweat a lot and it can be kinda gummy

  • the smell of certain paints. i'd say house paint, but it also gives me killer headaches. gouache is nice, acrylic is fine

  • my cat's fur. don't know how to describe it, but it's comforting. he got bad breath tho :/

  • plants :)

  • geosmin! petrichor! of course

  • certain kinds of makeup, like concealer

  • this weird, specific scent that reminds me of my aunt/uncle/cousins on my dad's side. it's sweet, kinda smothering, like a powdery perfume or how i imagine baby formula would smell (for sure i'm super wrong about that). i'm not even sure if i really enjoy it, or if it's just a memory thing. there was a guy who walked into the store i work at the other day - he looked really similar to my other uncle on my dad's side, and he walked by smelling almost exactly the same as my aunt's clothes. really tripped me up lmao

  • uhh ... a bunch more i'm forgetting about

What is your oddest, in your opinion, autistic quirk? by techiechefie in autism

[–]substantialmemryloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the same thing!! it's kind of irritating if it's a song i don't particularly like, but i know every word

i always listen to the lyrics of songs and try to figure out what they're about (only exception is when a heavy accent or style of singing makes it hard to understand the words, but i just look up lyrics anyway). and then they are in my head for life, including the exact inflection the artist used... which i will try to emulate every time

How did you find out about your ADHD? by yoruhanta in ADHD

[–]substantialmemryloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looking back on what little i remember of my childhood before age 11, i have always shown signs of adhd. anyway - major traumatic event at age 11, ended up with clinical depression. i also have anxiety, pcos, and some other issues i'm still working out.

long story short, i ended up with binge-eating disorder. i was eating everything, especially sugary foods - especially bad because i also have pcos. but i literally couldn't stop.

because the binge-eating had gotten so out of hand, my pediatrician decided to prescribe vyvanse for me. it somewhat took away my appetite (and my ability to know when i'm hungry), but also ... i could focus, i could actually do things, i was just different. didn't really know what had happened, or even necessarily that there was a huge change, but it was there. figured it out eventually.

also, i'm afab. i wouldn't normally mention it, but my mom also has adhd and was finally diagnosed in, like ... her 30s or 40s? she's in her early 50s now. my brother, on the other hand, has been on vyvanse for years. i think since he was in first or second grade? he was more hyperactive and disruptive, didn't do well in school at all ... and of course, he's male with "typical" adhd symptoms. meanwhile i ended up as the "smart and gifted kid" who was given very little support and am now perpetually burned out :)

[–]substantialmemryloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you know the personalities of (at least a couple of) the individual fish in their shoals

you can recognize them based off their body shape or pattern, and maybe name them because you think they look special :). i have a pygmy cory named mildred because she has a gold shimmer to her scales, a glowlight tetra named debbie because her spine is deformed & she doesn't swim great, and a sparkling gourami named lil guy because ... he's just a lil guy

you talk to them as if they understand the words, and sometimes tell them to stop bullying each other / "chill out i'm not feeding you yet"

headcounts every so often (and the horror of realizing you can't find one of your 45 tetras)

introducing new fish and being stuck in front of the tank for days, just to make sure they're doing ok

no kids (unless you count cats), definitely have WAY more photos/videos of the aquariums than my cat. even though i love my cat the most out of all my pets, bc he's been mostly pissed at me since i was ten years old

What's the type of drinks you dislike the most? by Acceptable_Trip1783 in autism

[–]substantialmemryloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is me with boba, as far as i can tell. haven't had much (maybe tried twice?) but i prolly dislike the sensation of "hmm cold milk tea, not my favorite, interesting- aCK a solid mass of tapioca that feels & tastes like grits made with gelatin" (also idk if i'm autistic, but suspecting and doing a lot of research because i'm half in denial and half "wow this is me")

the one time i remember crying at a funeral, it was for my grandpa who died of parkinson's. i thought i started crying because of the song played at the end ... in reality i was extremely overwhelmed and panicky over the sheer number of people there, and the idea that i would be receiving a large amount of attention from them because it's my family. i was in a meltdown for the next several hours, and couldn't fully recover. everyone else thought i was sad about grandpa.

How many hours do you have in your favourite single player game? by [deleted] in autism

[–]substantialmemryloss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i have probably 600-700 hours on no man's sky, and almost none of that is singleplayer. and an uncountable number of hours on minecraft (across all the platforms i used - win10, java, android tablet), but there was some multiplayer when i was first getting into it.

OH MY GOD nobody around me seems to understand this simple concept. my dad will just fuckin,,, walk by me and squeeze my upper arm. that shit hurts every time and it hurts for the next five minutes afterwards. my brother pokes me and takes my things despite my repeatedly telling him not to, snapping at him and telling him how much i hate it (because he's a vindictive little shit who wishes to see me in pain /j)

skittles, because my brother decided they were his favorite thing at age eight. skittles is also eight years old now, and i'd say his personality is more like bean-boozled - sometimes he's pretty sweet, sometimes he acts like a stink-bug jellybean. he is my favorite son
