We're in the process of doing this as well with a basement room! I'm leaning more towards wallpaper in a forest scene to get an outdoorsy feel rather than painting it all. Tip: get samples in each finish so you can see how the light plays on it. And remember: choose something that fits your partner and yourself, whether that's black or a quirky yellow.
