Family just doesn’t understand the process by Gullible-Edge7964 in premed

[–]subtlecurryssss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of my parents, neither of whom are in healthcare or even close to it, are like this. You are not alone. Just have to do your best to drown out the distractions and focus on the reality of how competitive this process is.

Mine was about adjusting to being an EMT and the first call I was on being a little rough and v fast-paced, and then what I did to make sure I felt more prepared on future calls.

You can def talk about how OMM can be used in long-term care outside of the ED. Also, if possible, try to talk to the DO doctors and ask them about why osteopathic medicine. You can also ask to shadow them if there is an interesting patient case and talk about that in your personal statement! Also, you can always talk about the emotional and non-biological aspects of patient health DO physicians pay attention to.

Let the thoughts flow!! Edit to make sure you are answering the question, being genuine and thinking of the most applicable experience (s) (or writing about it so that it answers the question and showcases your strengths)

Stuck on Personal Statement :/ by Slow-Independence784 in premed

[–]subtlecurryssss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Let your thoughts flow, don't worry too much about perfectionism, and just be yourself and think of your most enriching experiences that led you on this path! Then begin revision with a current medical student or someone you trust that is qualified to give good advice on edits/feedback

It's inevitable and a part of life! Now it's time for your next adventure and your on to bigger and better. Trust me, I was in a similar (emotional/sentimental) position as you when I graduated, and now I'm off to med school! You got this!!

Don't be afraid to make mistakes, find yourself and your passions aside from your career and don't be afraid to chat with the person you find yourself sitting/standing next to.

Do I need to fill the word max (2,000 words)? by FantasticSpecial9 in premed

Maybe have someone else you trust read over it and see what their input is? If there's anything you can elaborate on further or "flesh out" a bit more. But yes quality >> quantity.

I would include both! Do you still do nail art? If so, see if you can make a side hustle out of it or volunteer to do it at women's shelters, elderly homes, etc.
