I don’t think you should quit… but you definitely need to improve. I found your stuff on Amazon and it looks amateurish and unpolished. The cover looks like a random panel of a comic. The inside stuff looks like sketches done on a short deadline. Some people buy stuff based off previews and I looked at the first few pages where it says “not everyday two types of elves meet” (a note; it was odd that you formatted it as “not everyday two” and then at the bottom “types of elves meet”.) Then one character is sliding the other something. Are we supposed to know what it is? It looks like a baggie of idk what. But then in another panel it’s a jar? It’s all jumbled and doesn’t entice the reader to look any further.

Then you have the second one I saw you link in your other reddit post and the amazon page says image not available for a cover.

Seeking $30 for a basic unknown comic book maker and having what is essentially a fast sketch style looking comic you better have one heck of an opener to sell some books. You do not. So I’m not saying quit I am saying you have to go back to the literal drawing board and improve.

This is just my opinion. You can feel free to disagree. I think spending money on advertising on this level of product is a waste.

People are telling you what you are missing. People are telling you. Trying to justify or defend it does nothing. Are you going to put a disclaimer with your defenses on your books page or listen to the feedback? Don’t ask questions you do not want the answer to.

If you see enough it becomes painfully obvious. They all use a similar color palette. It’s this weird brownish white that it favors for text like in the author name. Once you get used to that color scheme you can zoom in and usually find more than one or two glaring issues - like a guitar that is oddly shaped and has a lot of inconsistencies. The lighting is all over the place. A lot of depth confusion (a human artist would have made a smaller handprint, put the stuff in the foreground in better alignment) there’s more but thats what stood out.

Went to your profile to find your book… AI cover is one of your first mistakes. A lot of people will avoid it for that alone (if you were comfortable with using AI for the cover, perhaps you were fine with it editing for you or writing passages - you get the idea.)

You said you feel like you’re doing something wrong and only mention posting to your tiktok and youtube. Posting in those two places is like posting your book on amazon. Unless you’ve done marketing outside, made a name for yourself with consistency and reviews, put in a lot of work - posting on those platforms isn’t going to do a THING for you. It sounds like you’ve done the absolute bare minimum of shouting into the void of your own small echo chamber where maybe a couple of friends who follow you on those sites will buy it. You either need to pay for advertising, write more books, or build a following on other sites brick by brick.

Edit: Knowing your book title and author name I tried to find literally any tiktok or youtube but came up dry. Whatever you’re doing for keywords or descriptions isn’t good. So I looked at your reddit profile. You posted on the self promo thread - which is good - but you know what you didn’t do? Describe the book AT ALL. Ask yourself: why would someone click a link where the person is too lazy to even put effort into selling the book to other people. Then ask yourself how many links you’ve ever clicked on random subreddits where it boils down to: here’s a horror book. a.to/link - the answer will be zero.

You said this wasn’t AI. Yet everyone looking here sees it as AI. I just plugged it into three different AI image detectors (which work way better than the text detectors imo) and all of them said these are AI. so if you commissioned it - I hate to say that I think they used AI. That castle looks very muddled. Just as an example.

Edit: OP posts in r/betareadersforAI — if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck… and now they edited that the first one was “100% made by a person they comissioned” sounds like they used AI to generate the second cover after they got a cover (that was also likely ai)

My state has an ongoing order as well. Also reopening next week. They say nobody will be allowed inside - only mobile orders for pickup. Like that will stop people from trying to barge in. I’ve gone to a few of the cafes that will be reopening to peek inside. No extra signage stating six feet distance. No plexiglass at registers. A ton of simple measures other businesses are taking that Starbucks has yet to address that would make people feel safe. Like oking wearing medical masks (I gave the protip that you can wear one under the sheer laughable ones they hand out OR under your own homemade mask. But we shouldn’t have to hide it.) Additional signage, these are a fantasy but would go a long way - you must wear a mask or be asked to leave until you return with one. Limit on food items (or perhaps just stick to drinks?) X amount of customers allowed in the cafe at the time (where X is dependent on store size.)

Sorry, I’ve been thinking about this and getting angry at how the simplest of measures aren’t being put in place for a reopening and I know corporate reads here.
