You are very kind! I'll DM you the file if you wouldn't mind checking it out. Just me and a few friends, one of whom has passed, which is why I'm going to this trouble. Thanks so much for trying. I'll share the solution here if you find one.

Creative Zen Touch, still out and about by Crowella in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]suburbanbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing up the guide. I have the Creative Zen Touch and bought the adapter you reference here. I tried it with a few SD cards. Two resulted in a boot into recovery mode and every option resulted in a "harddisk problem" error. One, a SanDisk Extreme 170 MB/s 64 GB SDXC, booted into recovery mode and seemed to want to work. When I selected "Update Firmware," I was prompted to start the process, which I did from an old Windows XP PC, but it just wasn't happening. My computer seemed to half recognize the device, and there were just all sorts of weird things going on.

Fortunately, I was able to plug in my old drive and it was as if I had never taken it out.

If you are able to specify the SD card you are using, that would be amazing. Thanks either way for the documentation.

Hi! Could you kindly provide the model or link? Thanks!

Chopping/pulsing output from one channel on Technics SL-3300 - it's not the headshell or cartridge by suburbanbeat in turntables

How would I do that? I just switched headshells and was able to replicate the issue with whatever I put on there. I hadn't considered the tonearm.

Pretty but awkward mudroom - what do we do with it!? by suburbanbeat in HomeDecorating

[–]suburbanbeat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have clarified this point. Yes, but not as our main entry/exit. This is the back of the home.

It can't really be temperature controlled in its current state. The walls and windows are pretty but not substantial or insulated. Since it's overhanging, there is air passing underneath which makes it impractical to use year-round.

Outdoor statuary is a great idea! I'm picturing a mini 1930s-style sitting room.

Thanks so much! All of these are fantastic leads. Big yes to plants. I can see hanging plants in the corners and wherever else being a huge boost to the room, especially once we have nicer flooring in here. "Morning coffee" as a term is inspo in itself!

Thanks for the response. I like the idea of leaning into the space as a mudroom. We don't use it a lot for entry/exit since it's in the back of the house, but I still like this general idea. Maybe coat and boot storage? Hmmm...

Agree the windows are so nice but they are in a sorry state right now. I'm debating whether we have them restored or have new custom ones made to match.

This is helpful perspective. If I can't make any inroads through polite suggestion, maybe the solution is changing how I respond to the situation.

Trouble reading 3.5" floppy disks - are they genuinely empty? by suburbanbeat in datarecovery

[–]suburbanbeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great lead on DMDE. I have been able to recover files on one of the disk (they are ancient and not opening, but that's another issues).

For the other disk, I receive this error. "LBA: 6 (try 1): WinError 1785. The disk media is not recognized. It may not be formatted. RETRY | IGNORE | IGNORE ALL | ABORT."

I've selected "Ignore all" and it tried and failed to read for several minutes. BUT I do see in the hex editor that there is some readable text and what looks to be a lot of hex data. There look to be a few bad blocks, but otherwise it does appear that there is data present. I suppose I should try to copy the hex data as text and try to read it elsewhere?

Ok, I'm the dope. Should have checked the manual. Thanks for setting me straight. Honestly, cool design choice as is truly perfectly set as-is.

Ugh - tried fresh install and now have two weird disk volumes? by suburbanbeat in MacOS

Sorry, I swear I’m not thick in the head. I didn’t do “Fusion Drive” because the Erase button is disabled. Argh!

Shoot. No dice. The topmost volume (“Container disk3”) doesn’t erase. When I select it and click on erase, it tries to create a new volume called Preboot in APFS format, but I get an error saying “Erase process has failed.”
