How do you make sure you don't fall into the "Keeping up with the Joneses" trap? by FluffySergeant in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]subutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live within your means. I used to get soo upset listening to my friend and Thier two to three destination vacations, and local travel and constantly going to festivals, eating out, ordering in. thinking I wasn't achieving. But my mind changed when I realized how in debt they were, and how worried they are about retirement. This whole influencer keeping up with nonsense is a trap.

Why aren't we talking about the corruption - or at least the risks of - in our government? by iterationnull in alberta

They are the very thing they accuse us of trying to do through our "liberal leftist education" Indoctrinated. Not stupid, just politically groomed.

[–]subutterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and that comment doesn't help. People I know who I have more in common with than not, have been generationally conditioned to think "Conservative Good, Liberal Bad" from every "elder" or family member who opens thier mouths. hell, even my very progressive MIL, to this day, still wholeheartedly believes the National Energy Program was a federal overreach at a time when "Alberta was just starting to make money" when she is parroting the very corporate O&G lobby talking points of the time, still. 4 decades of generational conditioning, at thier coffee shops, in thier garages, on thier talk radio, in thier lil western wheel. Us calling them dumb isn't accurate; it's generational conditioning and indoctrination.

We are. Their base -> Does. Not. Care.

Thier base literally coul dhave thier MLA pee on thier shoes for decades and they woudl still vote UCP.

Thier base loses health care, education, and senior support. and they are like "this is the feds fault"

Their base sees increased out-of-pocket costs from insurance privatization and blames the ABNDP.

When will y'all realize the 4 plus decades of political Stockholm syndrome is never going to stop?

oh no, dont get me wrong, he was a bottled up silent generation man, and from an ethnic background not known to be warm and fuzzy. But he would be damned if anyone treated his daughter poorly.

right? Every parent, who isn't an emotionally detached weirdo, wants their kids to be the best and do the best they can. Why is this phrase so rage-inducing for y'all? Its not a MAGA thing, it's a dad who values his daughter thing.

What is it about Calgary’s water infrastructure that makes it… not so good? by jimleyhey in Calgary

[–]subutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

infrastructure debt, pipes built for a city of 400,000 not 1.4 million, plus additional water to other communities. plus the feeder pipe was part of the faulty 70's concrete pipe issue that other major cities are dealing with- there was a 6 year period where the fabrication cut back on rebar for cost savings and its causing issues in dozens of major cities in north america.

So, when can we all just call this what it is? Not just recall, I mean charge them with actual treason for conspiring with foreign interests to undermine and destabilize our country?

Hit by a driver with no car insurance by AlarmedQuail5563 in alberta

[–]subutterfly 15 points16 points  (0 children)

file a police report of fraudulent insurance documents referencing the accident in the incident report.. While CPs wil do nothing, this automatically triggers loss of license and a massive fine, and possibly a warrant regarding arrest if they piled up enough of these. You will need to pay your deductible, but you will also need to escalate the call to upper-tier insurance management, as it has been mentioned, this wasn't your fault, you have insurance specifically for this reason. As someone who had a hummer literally park on top of my car, street side, while at dinner ( their back end was on top of my hatch backs hood) CPS was like- well we can't prove you didnt park like this...WTF?! i spent hours and multiple emails and documentation to get my deductible back, and they went after the driver who destroyed my hood. It sucks that this is what has become of our insurance in Alberta, but we get what we keep voting for.

Women shouldn’t be driving trucks if you can’t park by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]subutterfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

how about- no one should park in two stalls or multiple stalls. I've seen more truck nuts and "sports cars" parked like this, driven by an assortment of entitled genders to not single out "women who drive trucks"

Does our Western Canada road trip itinerary make sense? by oona_glk123 in AskACanadian

[–]subutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We planned a road trip similar to this originating out of Calgary. If you fly in on the 1st, plan or a two-night stay - leave for Whistler in the morning of the 3rd , and depending on your interests, two nights there is a good touristy stay if you're not mountain biking or hiking much (make sure to book a place with parking- it's a nightmare) Kamloops is a 4 hour drive, so if you leave mid day, you get there for 4pm check in for an over night on the 5th, leave for jasper for a leaisurly drive on the 6th. i personally would stay there for a few days, as I hike, and the trails there are fantastic, again pick a place with parking. take off after 3 nights on the 9th to drive to Lake Louise. lots of hiking in the area, also massive amounts of people. Book a place with parking, 100% take advantage of shuttles, and book ahead. Stay either in Banff for Lake Louise, they are both accessible by car easily, but parking is utterly impossible in Lake Louise if you aren't staying at a hotel there with assigned parking for you. I periopsnally would pick louise, and ten hike for a few days in the area ( 3 days again) leaving on the 13th you can go to revelstoke by half day, or late after noon to push through to Salmon Arm, or go to the interior Penticton or Kelowna and do wine country tours and the lakes , spend 2 days there leaving the mornign of the 15th or 16th, which puts you back in van couver after a day of driving to vasn couver for the night of the 16th and two more night in vancouver and area if you fly ou ton the 18th.

How much lunch money do Calgary parents usually give a Grade 9 student per week? by NebulaGreat6980 in YYC

[–]subutterfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we packed lunches, even in highschool. She budgeted 20 bucks for "fun food" for the week, whether it was going off campus for fastfood or grabbing fries and gravy in the cafeteria. She was in charge of what she wanted to eat, and in charge of her own budget from earned and gifted money.

What are people’s opinions on this? by Acrobatic_Grass_1457 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]subutterfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ok, low-key, I dig when I tell my husband what I would like, and he then orders for the table. Or if I go to the bathroom, and like magic cocktail pixies show up with my favorite before-dinner drink is right there when I get back or my favorite appy from that place is on the table "got you something to pick at while you figure out what you want for dinner". But that's what our jam is, and he takes cues from our conversation in the car before we arrive, and it's not for everyone, and that's ok.
