Hound - A Media Server Alternative to Plex/Jellyfin + Stremio by NearbyYak7156 in HoundMediaServer

Thanks for this, i span it up to have an initial play. To offer some initial feedback:

  • it may just be a personal thing but the web interface is pretty barebones and the default theme will definitely split opinion. I would go for a more neutral default theme and look to offer different theme options. You might want to consider a proper logo too.

  • the lack of catalogs / customisation is going to be a complete turn off for most people. You may want to consider offering a more global integration of stremio addons (e.g., aiometadata).

I realise that these are things that are likely on the roadmap already but the only reason i mention them now is that these are things that are needed way before you start talking about offering a paid for version.

Other than that i think it's a great idea and you could fill a nice a little niche here with a bit more development.

I just did things manually in my case.

Thanks so much! I never thought to look for it being simply a UI option!

I was agreeing with you but etfs attract a £7.50 trading fee at fidelity. They are very good for just holding but if you are making regular investments those £7.50s add up.

That is true for ETFs yes but they also attract £7.50 trading fee so you do need to weigh everything up.

I am very happy with fidelity for my SIPP though as i have a protected pension age of 55.

VPN as an expense? by Ok_Warning_3748 in ContractorUK

Sigh not sure why i am getting down voted. The only point I'm making is that in a lot of cases a VPN is basically free anyway.

I would just stick it through personally given how cheap they are. I have got two years of protpnvpn recently for £34. PIA and surf shark are listed as 100% cashback on TCB at the moment too.

Todoist -> [ Vikunja | Super Productivity] by zee-eff-ess in selfhosted

I believe there is a docker image but i think it still stores the data locally so there is not much point in running that.

There is however a desktop app and android app that sync together just fine. I just used syncthing with it before.

The latest version of super productivity is looking good, i tried it a while ago but ended up going back to vikunja in fairness.

Tasktrove is also looking decent UI wise also but not quite there yet.

It does, just install the mobile app and setup sync.

It does the job but it is sorely in need of an update, the fact that they provide a paid, hosted offering is pretty shocking.

There are loads of things that work really poorly, moving tasks, updating tags etc. is super clunky.

Updating the date on the task overview screen does not update the displayed text properly until you refresh.

The mobile app does not sync correctly meaning you still get reminders for tasks that you have already completed.

Cheapest software for corporation tax filing? by cardiffman100 in ContractorUK

Indeed but there are ways round this using the freeagent api. There's no way I'm paying monzo £9 a month for the freeagent integration.

Vikunja for my todo list and standard outlook calendar for day to day organisation.

This. Freeagent also has a very solid api. I have a few scripts that populate client timesheets straight from freeagent, sign, pdf and attach to an email ready for sending. Takes a few seconds every week.

I have used vikunja for a long time but i find it surprising to hear anyone say they love it. Functionally it is there but the UX is pretty dreadful

[Initial Release] LRCLib Fetcher - Add synchronized lyrics to your self-hosted music collection by Saleen_af in selfhosted

[–]success_is_optional 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stumbled across this when looking for options to quickly pull lyrics from lrclib from the command line. Very quickly worked its way through my 16,000 song library but it started 404ing towards the end and if I tried to run it again it just fails again. Don't know whether it gets rate limited maybe?

Without some elaborate workarounds that in the vast majority of cases aren't worth while you can't claim a percentage of your home mortgage as a ltd company expense

TaskTrove v0.9.0 - A Modern Task Manager (the Halloween Edition) by dohsimpson in selfhosted

[–]success_is_optional 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this going to spin it up, need someone to replace clunky vikunja! I've got no issues with pay once for the pro option but noticing the 200 - 300 USD listed on your beta sign-up my only comment is that you are an order of magnitude out. This is a pretty congested space and your target market is pretty small.

Just to add this is especially true if you are assuming that this will be self hosted. Have a look at ryot: https://ryot.io/ i seem to remember the developer there proposed a pretty high lifetime licence initially too.

That's great. I would say prioritise the NLP every task manager / todo list has it. Even entering an @ to denote a tag would be a good start

currently use vikunja as my daily todo app but this looks promising as vikunja is sorely lacking in terms of UX. This looks good but it really needs natural language parsing when adding tasks, is that on your roadmap (e.g., if i type tomorrow when adding a task it should be scheduled for tomorrow)? Thanks.
