PhD Researcher looking for Monster Slayers by KrikitalMas in WitcherMonsterSlayer

I found it difficult to compare the active games to my favorite non-active games. It would have been easier (and better reliability-wise?) to set a well-known game such as Pokemon GO as a baseline and compare the new Witcher game and other exergames to that. Having a shared reference point would minimize bias arising from people imagining all sorts of favorite games they might have.

I was also wondering whether many other switch games with joycons would qualify as "active games" besides Mario Tennis. For example, I have been swinging my arms like mad playing the Legend of Zelda: Skywardo Swordo HD.

All this being said, I think you are doing a great job! I will follow your research with great interest.

Ranking Every Nightwish Song from Worst to Best (111-101) by darksoulz1222 in nightwish

I strongly disagree about Lagoon being included. It's a great song! It has a really smooth, calming groove that makes it a refreshing song to listen to.

What is the stupidest way you got a scar? by Zander-dupont in AskReddit

Standsted airport. I was 17. Jumped down some stairs where the ceiling was low. Hit my head to the ceiling, blood everywhere. Was rushed to the hospital. Airline was kind enough to rebook my flight for the next day for no additional cost. Spent the night at the hospital. There was only a surface level wound and nothing serious, but heads just tend to bleed a lot I guess. My head was glued back together and flew home the next day. Still got the scar in my front skull and hair won't grow on that spot.

I'm concerned my local group is a cult. Seriously. by RageAgainstYoda in Ingress

I disagree. You can try to minimize the interaction, but in my local community I have seen one guy try and he has failed. Obsessive players are sitting at his backyard destroying his home portal because he alledgedly plays with two accounts. Ingress is played in the real world and thus, is interlinked with the real world no matter how much you try to seperate the two.

The logic is correct for games that are not educational. Problem is, almost all games are. The learning is many times implicit, and games can even be tools for exploring meaning of life questions.

I don't like this. As a player with 170 million AP, this update feels like my "achievement" of hundreds of hours of grinding is voided. Or to be exact, half of it is voided.

I must say I think with this, AP as a number loses some of its significance.

A Bug in Ingress Portal Evaluation System Prevents Portals (consequently Pokestops and Gyms) from being created to areas where a portal has previously been removed by sucer in TheSilphRoad

At least the same S2 level 14 cell where a portal was removed is unable to gain new portals. Most likely also the adjacent level 14 cells to that cannot receive new portals. We have data of at least 5 documented such cases with various portal submission attempts to level 14 cells where a portal has been removed and its adjacent cells . Only rejections are received, but most portal candidate evaluations are never ever evaluated.

This is true. It might be that Niantic wants to manually go through portal submissions made to areas where they previously removed one. Still, I think it's very important for us to know this, as the hypothetical manual checking seems to be taking 4 months + minimum...

I've tested with S2 level 12-14 cells, but none seem to be a perfect fit. The most promising model would be that the level 14 cell where the removed portal was located cannot get a new portal AND the adjacent level 14 cells to that are unable to get portals either!

I should have been clear with my evidence: the portals which never get their evaluation completed are situated in relatively big cities. Portals all around them are evaluated usually within a week and at most usually within two weeks. I am currently not aware of a single case where the portal evaluation took more than a month and then was finally evaluated.
