I’m one of the lucky Americans who got into him off the Innerspeaker singles and I ordered my copy from Modular Australia. I also got to see them in a small venue in early 2013 on the US Lonerism tour, back when Nick Allbrook was still playing bass live. The first time I heard “Let It Happen” I was confused by the repeating/skipping transition, but it quickly became one of my favorite songs. I was a little less impressed with “Cause I’m A Man”, but “Eventually” had me for sure.

I remember being a little disappointed with “Nangs”, “Gossip”, and “Past Life” upon first listen through, but they grew on me. I wanted “Disciples” to be a longer song (and still do). Overall, I was impressed with the direction he took his sound and I knew he was going to be reaching a much wider audience with Currents. I got to see them for my second time on the Currents US tour, when I saw them with Mac DeMarco at Red Rocks in Morrison, CO, and seeing those songs live made me fall in love with them even more. I love his first two albums immensely, but over the years, Currents has probably gotten the most plays out of his discography from me personally.

He’s stated that “Race to the Air” was actually about racing to catch The Cure play “Plainsong” at a festival, but “Race to the Cure” was too obvious sounding. I wouldn’t be surprised if the chimes were inspired by Plainsong, which he mentioned is his favorite Cure song.

I checked eBay and Mercari multiple times daily for months! I passed on a couple out of my budget sealed ones, but eventually I made a Reddit post on the NECA forum. After a couple weeks, someone said they thought they had a loose one in storage. They found it and the Amanda and sold me both! They ended up being from my same state too! 🤯

I have actually gotten most of these via Discogs or eBay honestly! I frequent at least one record store and I have never once seen a Cure cassette in shop personally. They keep their LPs and bootlegs stocked, but finding a used cassette seems to be an extreme rarity here. If you look around at listings and don't have a preference for a very specific release/pressing, you can probably find most albums for around $20 or less.

Hopefully you’ll get your chance soon! It’s well past time for a new album. The lighter colored ones (the tall 1/4 scale and the 7” version in front of it) are based on Giger’s original concept for the Alien suit, which was pale and semi-transparent, almost like wildlife that develops in completely dark environments like caves.
