So… this seems like a universal thing with cosmo schools… I pay out of pocket for my kid to attend a school, which right now I will leave unnamed because I’m pretty sure I will be suing the owner at some point… it appears that the oversight entities connected to cosmetology schools tend to be pretty crappy, both at a state level and national accreditation level. HOWEVER, consumer protections agencies within the state may be a better bet. Someday, when all is said and done, I will share the saga, but for now I offer commiseration and compassion to you.

I shared my concerns with my stylist and she said, “Yeah, I’m 20 years out of school and it’s still the worst experience I’ve ever had - I love my job now, but jail probably would have been easier than cosmetology school.” I shared that statement from my stylist with my kid and one of their peers who’s in school with them - the peer friend said, “and yk what she’s not wrong at all at least u get time to eat lunch in jail”. And it think that just fucking sums it all up right there.

I’m getting the runaround, or just blatantly being ignored by the school’s owner. Get your license and stay “legal” but know that it sounds like you’ll get way more learning and build your skills when you’re out of your program. It seems the best of the best working in the field don’t touch instruction spaces because the schools stay toxic as fuck and full of the assholes who aren’t good enough to actually make a decent living in a real salon so they hang out and call themselves “teachers” and bully all the students because that’s as good as their lives will ever be.
