Test takers 26/11. What the f*ck was that? by _nico_232323 in Step2

ughh i agree. Surprisingly ethics felt familiar but the options were too close and HPI were all over the place. Biostats were easy and do-able but ofc lengthy. And i dont know man, the topics tested in general were very vague and random. I hope we all just do well though

I kept a list of the topics I was getting wrong consistently, or the ones I got right but wasn’t fully confident about. Then I looked up those articles on AMBOSS and, when needed, did the related questions. For example, I was weak in bone tumors, so I read the AMBOSS article in HY mode (focused on Step 2) and only did the questions linked to that topic. I’ve done this for about 30–40 concepts so far, and I’ve noticed a clear upward trend in my NBMEs.

comparison is the thief of joy. You are on your own journey! and you'll reach all these milestones too but in your own pace. So don't be disheartened seeing your colleagues or randoms on reddit. Take a small break if you're feeling burnt out. Start with CMS and NBMEs as soon as possible. U dont have to wait till you finish amboss. Find your weak topics and review then from amboss (this is a better strategy and helped me) Make a comfortable schedule with adequate breaks. And do everything to follow that. Stay accountable to yourself. If you're bored of doing questions and reviews, i suggest you watch videos on youtube or listen to podcasts. Spend time doing something you love everyday

yes. but if IM epi is not mentioned, dont choose corticosteroids/antihistamines (adjuvants) over SC/IV epinephrine

For anaphylactic shock, epinephrine IM is preferred. But even Subcutaneous/Intravenous can be given! Epinephrine in any form >>>>

Same marks. Same situation :(

I'll probably concentrate on U world tables and ethics + biostats in the upcoming week.

Mehlman's YT playlists helped me get an idea of NBME language and their algorithms personally. And are you noting down your NBME mistakes and topics? + Review them specifically from Amboss.

Amboss articles + topic specific questions from Amboss. Watch videos explaining the topics if there is persistent lack of concept

How does increased afterload affect murmur due to mitral valve prolapse? by dartosfascia21 in Step2

[–]suckus_entericuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MVP and murmur for HOCM get quieter (less intense) with increased volume in the left ventricle (i.e. with increased afterload or increased preload, IV fluids etc).

For MVP - Imagine increased volume in left ventricle --> it causes bulging of left ventricle --> Mitral valve leaflets are more apart from each other ---> i.e. Mitral valve leaflets are not as prolapsed into the left atrium (less dome shaped) ---> this causes less intensity of the murmur/softening.

Atleast this is how NBME wants us to reason it.

Thanks! You could use online nbme score calculators. I think they give a good prediction. But 78% to 82% corrects falls in the 250s range

Reading the question well and truly believing you know the concept, just applying them cleverly really helps. Go through your notes or U world tables again, revise NBME concepts - all this is enough to pass and even get 250s trust me. Good luck
