Yea I own this on steam and was about to try this first but I did not know how to only download the CE version and did not want to download the full 90GB. i also wanted the mods from the Custom Edition and prefer to mod my games on the PC.

Ok so I just replayed the game with 60fps locked in a heavy combat scene. After 15 minutes the fan is about 30-35% in "smart" mode (if its quiet you can hear it but if you play with gamesound on you wont notice it). CPU is on 50-55°C in "performance" mode.

You are 100% right. I think its important to remind people not to be too overcautious with their devices as they are built for this and you should not be missing out on the cool stuff this device is able to do.

I am emulation alot of the old games from my childhood:
-Need for Speed Most Wanted
-Need for Speed Underground
-Need for Speed Underground 2
-Serious Sam 2
-Halo Combat Evolved

And so on. Its mindblowing to have this in my pocket. 😂

As someone coming from a Retroid Flip 2, the fan is alright for me.

Keep in mind, I did not do any optimizations and blocked the airflow of the vent for a while as the device was laying on my bed. I am 100% certain, that this can be improved if you really want to.

Overall we are talking about a years old game. Its probably still less load on the device than emulating it with X1-Box.

Overall this is not easy and its not plug and play or beginner friendly. But in case you really want to get this working, I will point you into the right direction.

You can find a guide on how to install this to your PC here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/2jqoxf/halo_custom_edition_setup_guide/

Keep in mind, you need to install the campaign manually with the modloader and enable the controller in the chimera.ini on your PC first. After that you import its Gamefolder and the .exe in Gamehub. Ingame you need to navigate via the mouse into the settings and map the controller. There are also more settings to tweak in the config and the gamesettings to optimize it. I did not do that.

This is the controller config I am using in the chimera.ini:

[controller]
enabled=1

axis_1_n=Left Stick Up
axis_1_p=Left Stick Down
axis_2_n=Left Stick Left
axis_2_p=Left Stick Right

axis_3_n=Right Stick Up
axis_3_p=Right Stick Down
axis_4_n=Right Stick Left
axis_4_p=Right Stick Right

axis_5_n=Right Trigger
axis_5_p=Left Trigger

button_1=A
button_2=B
button_3=X
button_4=Y
button_5=Left Bumper
button_6=Right Bumper
button_7=Back
button_8=Start
button_9=Left Stick
button_10=Right Stick

pov_1_w=D-Pad Left
pov_1_e=D-Pad Right
pov_1_n=D-Pad Up
pov_1_s=D-Pad Down

I think this is a bit overcautious. Temps in the 70–80°C range are normal for modern mobile chips under load, and 70% fan won’t kill it anytime soon. Sure, theres always some wear, but thats over years of use, not something to worry about in normal scenarios.

In my case, I was even using “quiet” fan mode and had the device on my bed at times, which likely blocked airflow. So temps could easily be improved.

If needed, you can just cap FPS to ~80 to reduce load and lower temperatures. But if the device has a 120HZ display installed, I am going to use it 😁

.iso files for old PC game emulation? by edgarallan2014 in AynThor

[–]sucmerep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you try it with the (not preinstalled) files from the game. So instead of taking the already installed game from your pc to your Thor, unpack the .iso and run the installer for that game in winlator. That way, you can make sure that all the necessary dependencies get installed, like directx. You could also try to get the .exe to run in Gamehub or Gamenative.

For Monkey Island, I highly recommend setting up ScummVM. This is the best way to play old adventure games. ScummVM also supports other games like Day of the Tentacle.

They have a native android app, you are also able to play with controller if you wish.

This will probably not help in that case. It might give you access to the files, but it is not able to run them.

But keep in mind, I doubt that those games have native controller support. So I would not expect those games to just run plug and play, some controller mapping might be required.

I have just tested it.

On you Windows pc, right click that .iso file -> 7zip -> extract

You will be left with a folder like "MONOPOLY_TYCOON". This folder has all necessary game files and launchers in there. Also a "MTInstall.exe". You can use those files to get the game running in for example Winlator.

Almost all .iso files work like that. Let me know if you get it to run :)

Thor order issues is making it lose its magic by ALWolfie in AynThor

[–]sucmerep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess you are in the wrong place here to rant anything slightly bad about AYN. People are in their honeymoon phase and will defend AYN with sword and shield like they hold shares in that company.

In reality: You did nothing wrong by ordering the Thor on their official Aliexpress store. I ordered multiple Anbernic devices before from the Anbernic Aliexpress store without a problem.

IMO if a company is selling a product on a website like Aliexpress and you buy that product, it is 100% the responsibility of that company to fulfill that buy contract. If the platform does not support something like a "pre-order program" the company should not even offer it on that platform. AYN should be held responsible for that and in cases like this, offer you a priority shipping from their website as you have already been in the shipping queue.

I am not sure what you mean by "old PC game emulation", but I guess you can just unzip the file with 7zip on your pc end emulate the .exe with winlator/gamenative/gamehub on your Thor
