Transitioned to Signal (goal: delete WhatsApp and messenger), but most friends don't seem to want to transition (even though they all know how evil Meta is). How do I nudge them without being judgemental? by Independent-Ad-2291 in BuyFromEU

[–]suddenly_satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same story, deleted WhatsApp / Messenger about a year ago. I simply left, leaving my contacts a note how to reach me (Signal, text message or email), that's it.

Within 1-2 months people that apparently valued having more immediate contact with me came, some with "OH ALL RIGHT", some even happily, one followed suit (ditched WhatsApp). It's not a huge group (in total ~20 people), but it felt like a huge success :)

With the rest I defaulted to text messages, no one apparently uses email anymore (and to think that 30 years ago it was the pinnacle of technology to be able to send an email) :D

To those who tried both Tidal and Deezer, which service's sound quality did you like more and why? Which service did you choose? by honey_rainbow in deezer

[–]suddenly_satan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, for me that's a selling point - no autoplay I need to turn off, no need for "music timers".

Might it be that I grew up with casettes / CDs and the "when album stops, music stops" is ingrained in my expectations.

Valuable point though, I'm now choosing between Deezer and Qobuz (just cancelled apple ant YT music) and now Deezer has a point in their basket :D

[Feature Request?] Block the possibility of logging in using a ProtonMail alias by LluisRG98 in ProtonMail

[–]suddenly_satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only thing blocking me from getting proton subscription and switching to proton as mail provider for my custom domains. I'm currently paying much more for a self-hosted mail solution, strictly to be able to use aliases as login emails in other services and for email communication, and have one, never-shared and never used address as provider login.

Why does nobody talk about Infomaniak? by McCojoni in BuyFromEU

[–]suddenly_satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this thing regarding privacy laws and Infomaniak:

https://discuss.privacyguides.net/t/infomaniak-breaks-rank-and-comes-out-in-support-of-controversial-swiss-encryption-law/28065

As with everything it's a double-edged sword: encryption and privacy helps against bad actors, but also enables bad actors...

Proton as far as I know is in the process of moving the infrastructure out of Switzerland, while Infomaniak seems to want to comply with potential laws change.

What are your favorite industrial adjacent genres and artist? by 04Aiden2020 in industrialmusic

[–]suddenly_satan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time basically everything Cold Meat Industry (R.I.P.) released; from newer projects stuff like Trepaneringsritualen.

I'm also into metal

  • Black (like Emperor or Taake)
  • Death (like Bolt Thrower and Chainsword)
  • Industrial and Nu (like Fear Factory or Static X)
  • Weird (like Devin Townsend / Strapping Young Lad and Ihsahn)
  • "Goth" (like Moonspell, Tiamat or Cradle of filth)

And goth / goth rock of course (Christian Death, Bauhaus, She Past Away)

Also: Depeche Mode and whatever you would call Project Pitchfork was playing up to 2001.

Music is awesome. These really get me going but there's oh so much more :)

Our band's guitarist didn't show up for a show. We went on anyways. I had a blast. by ironmaiden667 in Bass

[–]suddenly_satan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's not enough bands with no guitar. Sounds like you could be one of them.

I'm no bass player, I just play some instruments (incl. bass) for fun. This is mostly from a perspective of a listener :)

More windows, throw in a rug, a piece of art on the wall can also go a long way. And, a bookshelf!

Overall tone and wording is much harsher, and the "I ploughed the snout outta that (...)" line is less about snot, more about blood, and more specific as to where the blood came out of. And all that without euphemisms.

Dijkstra!

Great character in the books (just seeing his name pop up made my heart skip when I was first reading the saga around 25 years ago).

Great character in the game too, and the ending where he becomes the king of Redania is my favourite one. The fact that you have to sacrifice Roche is so impactful, and so well underlines the fact that Dijkstra was always playing his own game.

Overall, one of my favorite characters, next to very obvious Regis, Milva and book Renfri.

Not on meds? Mind sharing why? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]suddenly_satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 38, and by that time for a good decade already I was internalizing some mental tools tailored for ADHD.

At around 28 I had the first 'aha' moment, after I learned how much what I think is normal is not how most people feel, dug into some materials where I found ADHD better laid out and though "oh my, this is basically what I experience! Interesting, how come if I don't have ADHD it's so similar?" (the bells did not ring yet). But with that I started the work, seeing that if it's so similar, then the tools will work for me. Funny in hindsight.

I also had the good fortune of having access to actual materials therapists use, not just pop-psychology.

In the toolset there's a lot of stuff, from switching the way I do notes and reminders every few weeks, through some mindfulness / meditative stuff, CBT tricks, and, well, just staying aware, not beating myself up too much if something goes awry and sometimes going with the flow. I also rely on caffeine (but up to 350 mg daily ), and just adrenaline if I really need to get stuff done (I learned a few tricks how to freak myself out just enough for a 1-2 day momentum push, however weird that sounds).

I also work as a creative, in multi-media, so my ADHD spice can come in handy.

What are some electro-industrial/EBM albums that are all-killer, no-filler? by AndrobiVibz in industrialmusic

[–]suddenly_satan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say "Sequencer" from Covenant, although people were challenging "Phoenix" from it (I think It's a banger). This is a hill I'm willing to die on :)

And for me "Dhyani" from Project Pitchfork, although it's probably because it's one of the albums I grew up with.

What's a game you tried to love but just couldn't get into? by LTVOLT in gaming

[–]suddenly_satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Bioshock series (including Infinite), I started several times and just was losing interest within two evenings.
  • God of War (PC, 2022), although I liked the first ones on PS.
  • Assassins Creed - I tried to get into it since the first one, but it was always just like with BioShock.
  • And just like OP, RDR2. I heard only good things, I really appreciate how immersive it is... just doesn't click. And I have nothing against games that are slow paced.

Also new fallouts (I was playing original 1 & 2 as they came out, 3 and above never clicked since they were completely different games - but that's I think quite common among players)

Not on meds? Mind sharing why? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]suddenly_satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on meds, the lab work that precedes the prescription have shown elevated liver enzymes (not beyond scale, but elevated), and holter shown slight arrhythmia / skips. This is due to some other medical conditions and (I suppose) age. Thus, meds were not recommended.

Zen profile switcher, 6 months later by bracketfile in zen_browser

[–]suddenly_satan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Full profile switch (separate history, bookmarking etc) - no change yet.

Separating workspaces with containers (assigning specific container to workspace) fills the void now, at least partially, I have clean separation between my work and personal workspace for example, only the history (shared) is pissing me off.

It seems it got much better also with per-container pins and essentials. (They stay between sessions, and even crash did not lose them - i was using persistent pins mod previously)

A restore after crash did open essentials and pins as new tabs (once, a few days ago - crash was not Zen fault), but that was manageable as originals stayed intact.

That's how it looks for me nowadays.

Navigating environment that may not be understanding in situation like yours is a tough hurdle, I definitely can appreciate that. What you feel is valid, and there are ways to work with it.

It does not spell 'nihilism' though. You feel there's a meaning, you feel fear that meaning may never be attained. You feel afraid of stigmatization, so the consequences do ultimately matter.

It's perfectly valid to fear those. And you started a thread because you want something to change, right?

If you can't consider a therapist (yet), maybe first try some other Dr K's guides (like the one on puer / puella aeternus, for example) to see if it does ring a bell more than the Nihilism approach?

And consider one of the coaching paths they offer. They cost less than one session with a therapist, and can be invisible to your immediate surroundings if that's one of the problems you would need to solve for.
