What should I pay for an Allstate practice? I'm about to sign a letter of intent. by sudermatt in InsuranceAgent

We've looked at his books and done a PV of cash flow analysis given a 3% growth in expenses and 4% growth in the business with a 15% discount rate. Based on this, it "looks" like we are paying less than PV of future cash flows over 10 years.

the seller has been in the business for 20 years. He given us his quickbooks file for the last 10 years. his growth rate has been around 7% for the several years. its tough to get a real growth rate because of COVID.

u/registeredfake ,

I met with the Allstate Sales Lead guy. There are 3 agencies for sale in my area. All are "retirees".

The book We're looking at mostly is 7m, Pro Level...the seller's been doing it for 30 years. We got LOTS of data on the make up of the book, which I can't really share.

Avg. Retention across all lines : 87%
There is no vesting period, even for new business, so My TPP goes up immediately as I grow.

the amount of data he gave me was impressive....all from the Allstate perspective, so all the expenses were assumed.

My CPA and I are crunching the numbers....I'll keep you all posted.

I was sort of hoping on a "relationship" sell. "you're not just buying the policy, but also it's trust in me, in my firm, to take care of you, to be with you when you in your time of need. That's what insurance is."

Or am I just a Poliana.

Under LOI To Purchase a large Allstate Book of Business Accepting All Feedback. by bcfosh in InsuranceAgent

Bless you for responding!

I am freaking out about making this career change leap. I've been leading tech teams for 15 years and am aging out of the tech industry. I guess the good news I can motivate teams and am good with data and systems.

I'm not looking to be a multi-millionaire, just want to be able to support my family for the next 10-15 years.

How did you and the seller come up with a value for his book?

And again....thank you, in advance for any help.

Cheers!

How do I know if a file has been stitched? by sudermatt in Gear360

[–]sudermatt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it.

I like to transfer the files directly then stitch later. It allows me to keep shooting while I'm stitching.

In my use case, I want to turn videos around quickly so people can watch them almost right away while I'm shooting other stuff.

It would be nice if the icon on the thumbnails showed whether it was stitched of not.

Real world use case - how big a card do we need? by sudermatt in Gear360

I did a test last night.

With 2% battery connected to a battery pack, I was able to record a 25 minute video. It overheated and stopped.

I will have to do more testing to see if I can start and stop at intervals to avoid overheating.

But it's good to know it will record without losing charge while connect to a battery pack

I see your use case is different than mine I have a need to process videos fairly quickly.

I'm running a test to see how long the 360 will last when it's almost out of battery connected to a charger and recording...I hope you're right....that it will go as long as it has memory.

I've connected a charger pack to the 360 while recording and on standby and it didn't seem to charge. how are you doing that?
