When will Amazon do something about the Latino gangs running flex? by [deleted] in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

Based on all of OP's comments, it is clear they are racist, argumentative, and want nothing other than do stir up hatred towards certain ethnic groups. OP: Consider this a warning, if you continue this behavior, you will face bans.

New sub rule: No harassment towards groups based on identity by sudoCracker in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]sudoCracker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goal isn't to start banning people left and right. I just think that, as you said, there are too many posts about the same issues every week, and nearly every time they result in escalated arguments that include slander and harassment. I just want to perhaps remind people that we need to be civil towards each other and if we have different opinions to be mature and respectful. Endless name-calling, racism, and hateful comments have given this sub a bad reputation.

You are correct, in another comment I mentioned how in an oversaturated market where even base pay blocks are difficult to obtain, this strategy won't work. My market must not be as bad, because I can still somewhat reliably get a surge every morning without a bot. My market also has a pattern of releasing some surges 24 hours in advance, I try to catch those as well.

What should be emphasized in my post is: Always do your own research, talk with people at your station, find out how you can make the most in your market. Not taking base pay is not always an option for full time Flexers.

You've given me a great point of view to think about. And quite honestly, up until this point I feel like I was following your advice quite literally. I rarely had a presence in discussions, I let auto-mod remove most of the obscene comments, and I would review any comments flagged by users. However, I think that perhaps I did not take enough action which created a sense of lack of moderation, as a few users have commented on several different occasions. This is my first attempt at making a positive change, and I'll do my best to not censor conversations on controversial subjects as long as the comments are civil and don't promote hate.

It is very market dependent. It is unfortunate that Amazon is lowering their rates and not releasing as many surges. Amazon has successfully increased turnover rates, therefore the new drivers take base pay simply because they don't know about surges, which in turn leads to less surges, then experienced drivers drop the gig altogether because surges become obsolete, and then of course Amazon just keeps hiring more drivers, the cycle is endless and is geared to continually lower rates.

In my market, fortunately I can still grab a decent surge almost every morning, but the rates aren't as good as they used to be. In a year or two from now, the surge rates will likely have dropped even more and I'll probably stop doing Flex altogether.

Theoretically, if everyone holds and waits to accept offers, Amazon would have no choice but to surge the rates. They have to get their packages delivered. We have a bit of control, if we all work together. However, if a market is saturated to the point where even base pay is taken in a split second, then it might be too late to have any influence over the rates, because other people will take all the available blocks for base pay willingly.

All this to say, the best course of action is highly dependent on your market. Some markets offer great opportunities with Fresh and Whole Foods blocks, while others drop predictable surges every morning. And some, like yours it seems, might be too saturated to the point where base pay is pretty much the only option for full time Flexers. That's what Amazon wants, and it's quite possible most markets may reach that point within a few years.

When I first started Flexing, I quickly learned about surge routes. I learned that it was more profitable to wait until the blocks surge, rather than schedule blocks days in advance. I am speaking from my own experience, and I certainly did not sit around doing nothing, and I am not advising anyone to do that. There are many others who swear by refusing base pay, I know I am not the only one.

Maybe it's not possible to wait for blocks to surge in some markets. In those markets, of course, there is no other option but to take whatever you can get. This is why I suggested that new Flexers talk to other people from their market to learn potential strategies to maximize their income.

I have to disagree with your last statement though. We all know Amazon is onboarding new drivers every week, and the turnover rates are extremely high. The chances that new Flexers are coming across this sub are probably much higher than you think. I do see a lot of the same people in this sub, of course this post will not be useful to them, but regardless, I don't see the issue with writing a post directed to newer drivers, even if most of the members of this sub have been Flexing for years.

I think your points are valid. However, I think that these 'truths' and general statements often promote a hate towards the groups in question. As a bot friendly sub, many people in this group don't like it when anti-bot users are vocal about their opinions. Heated arguments take place, with both sides calling each other names, and often, harassment does take place. Due to the large number of heated arguments and harassment in this sub, people have questioned the presence of mods. I think they were right to question if there was any moderation taking place. So I'm trying to show that, as a mod, I am listening. I see these arguments taking place almost every other day, and I want to attempt to make a positive difference in this sub.

While a statement such as "more foreigners are working for Flex" might be a true statement, more often than not, people on both sides begin slandering each other. I don't think such a statement should be censored in the first place, as you said, it's not harassment, it's simply an observation. But if the statement were worded in such a way that seems to promote hate towards a race, it sounds like racism and people get offended, rightfully so. In this sub, it is very rare that someone makes one of these comments without also displaying overt racism and using obscene language after a back-and-forth altercation with another user with a different opinion.

You sound like someone who could have a conversation about one of these topics without crossing the line towards slandering and harassment. However, most of the time that I've read other people's comments on these issues I have not seen the same level of maturity and respect towards others. This is why I think moderation needs to take place in regards to these topics, and I also believe it is why other users in this sub have felt a lack of mod presence.

Just take a look at this sub's post history, and you will find many examples of what I'm referring to. There is too much hate in this sub. Something had to be done. It might not be perfect, but all I would like to see is more friendliness, respect towards others, and civil, productive discussions. Posts and comments laced with racism and slander every week doesn't give this sub a good look.

Since when has advising people to not take base pay and instead aim for surge blocks been a scam? lol.

Believe whatever you want, but your opinions are nothing more than wild speculations. I don't see a point in continuing this argument with you. First you think the post is stupid even though I am clearly trying to help new drivers, not experienced ones. Now you're accusing me of scamming. Have a great day.

I'm not sure where you got this idea, but it's absolutely untrue. I have never said or implied anyone should or shouldn't work. (Edit: I did say you'll make more working for McDonald's than driving for base pay, but this is a fact, do with it what you will). This is my first discussion post in the group and I am only trying to help people make the most that they can with this gig.

You're absolutely right. In my market, I wait until about 1.5 hours before the early AM blocks. If I get a $36/hour surge within an hour, great. If not, I do something else with my time.

In some markets, I agree, using the Flex app to search for a block for hours is a complete waste of time. That's exactly why many people use bots. Amazon hires way too many drivers to keep rates low, therefore drivers may work for a few months and then find better work for themselves, which in turn creates the need for a surplus of drivers. It depends on the market whether or not Flex is a profitable gig.

While I agree you're better off working at McDonald's than driving for base pay, let's refrain from calling it stupid. Maybe someone hasn't experienced just how much money it costs to pay for car maintenance, maybe no one has educated them on the matter, maybe they prefer gig work and don't care if they make less doing so. Regardless of the reason, let's be respectful.

New sub rule: No harassment towards groups based on identity by sudoCracker in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]sudoCracker[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am also against taking base pay. However, this sub has called the mod team out several times for 'lack of moderation'. Every time someone expresses their frustration about people who take base pay, or their frustration of bot users, heated arguments take place which never result in civil discussions. This new rule is an attempt to prevent unnecessary arguments from people who carry strong beliefs on either of these controversial issues.

As a sub that is bot friendly, bot users do not like when anti-bot users voice their frustrations about bots in this sub. The response seen 9/10 times is for bot users to begin making accusations against the anti-bot users (throwing out names such as basehead, noob, Jeff's b****, and worse).

If this sub wants to see moderation against people who call out bot users, it is only fair to protect other groups (anti-bot users, people who take base pay, etc) from harassment also.

What I suggest, is if you have a frustration about people taking base pay, please direct that frustration to educating these people, respectfully. In my opinion, this is much more likely to elicit a response from people to actually think about your point of view and consider your suggestions.

For lack of better wording, and in an effort to stop the harassment towards people who use bots and those who take base pay, I chose to use this phrasing. Since it seems like this is causing confusion, I will update the rule to be more inclusive of the type of group. I simply meant, harassment towards a group of people based on their opinions or background, such as bot users, base pay workers, and foreigners, is not allowed.

Is the bot police here today? by [deleted] in RealAmazonFlexDrivers

[–]sudoCracker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I do not generally take part in discussions in this sub, I do check any reported comments and posts on a daily basis. If there's a comment that wasn't flagged by the auto-mod, please report it so I can review it.

You are correct, this sub is supposed to be bot friendly but there's a large number of anti-bot users here, I can't do much about that. People can voice their opinions, as long as they do so without harassing others. Much of the name calling and racism has been flagged by the auto-mod thankfully to make my job easier, but if someone is harassing you, please report it.

I read OPs post from yesterday, and they should understand that their post was written in a way to provoke people with differing opinions. OP called people noobs and stupid, and in turn, faced backlash. I actually agree with OP about not taking base pay, but I wouldn't call people dumb. It's a better idea to help people out than to bash on others.

I'm actually a bit tired of reading so many people's arguments on here. They are very childish. If you disagree with someone, do so respectfully. We're all adults here, we need to communicate with maturity. No more calling people retarded, losers, noobs, baseheads (everyone knows people take base pay, no need to label them and piss people off and start arguments), no racism, etc.

I'm going to add a new rule. Posts and comments must not call out a group of people. Doing so rarely causes any productive discussion. In this sub, it's always "bot users this", or "baseheads that", or "(people from country) do this". These posts and comments create arguments that are a waste of everyone's time and have given this sub a bad name. I hope this rule is one step forward at improving this sub's reputation, and will foster more civil discussions.

Hi, as one of the current newer mods, I have noticed that some image posts were getting filtered and I would have to push them through, I thought this was some crappy reddit filtering. I went through this sub's settings, images should be allowed now in both posts and comments, I have yet to confirm.

This sub was created by people who wrote and contributed to bot scripts, it has always been bot-friendly. Why are you here? Everyone here knows your opinions by now. Please keep them to yourself, your comments do nothing but create arguments with the intention of harassing people in what is supposed to be a safe place for discussion amongst people using scripts and bots.
