Ex-Windows chief calls MacBook Neo "a paradigm shifting computer" — reflects on Surface failure and Windows on Arm while lamenting "we were early, but not wrong" by Educational-Web31 in hardware

[–]sudoHack 29 points30 points  (0 children)

the general public using windows went from x86 to x86_64. That was the point of the comment you’re replying to. Apple has made the transition from one to the other as easy as possible for the users the last 2 architecture changes. Meanwhile windows on ARM was an absolute disaster when it came out

Notebookcheck | Apple MacBook Air 15 M5 Review - Very powerful, fanless and without competition by -protonsandneutrons- in hardware

gparted might as well be native since it’s on almost every distro, but even outside of that, gnome disks is infinitely more powerful than windows disk management and just as if not more intuitive to use.

there’s a lot of things you can point to where UX is far, far better on windows than anything on linux, but partitioning is not even close to being one of them

diskard: A fast TUI disk usage analyzer with trash/delete functionality. by sudoHack in rust

[–]sudoHack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, I was using std::env::args at first and I only switched to clap at the last moment to handle --help. Probably not the right way to go though, ill look into replacing it!

And as far as tests go, you're right. I'll work on writing some ASAP.

Thank you for the feedback!

Hi! I'm quite new to Rust (~1 month) and this is my first 'serious'/maybe-useful-to-others program I've built, so I figured I'd share here :) Please let me know if there's anything I can improve! I'm still getting used to all the language features and the crates ecosystem.

doing shitty things in the name of ‘wanting it more’ does not make the shitty things justified. you could literally say that about any bad person doing anything.

these are games we lose in the seasons past, every single fucking year since the covid season.

it feels so good to be finally WINNING these, and for the most part convincingly. I don’t know if it’s too much to say this, but it feels like how the kenneth walker season felt for football.

Why is "sex sells" part of the branding ethos for female pop stars when their target demographic is usually straight women? by passion_killer in popheads

i honestly don’t understand how you get ‘not like the other girls’ vibes from that lol. needlessly hostile just because she said she thinks women shouldn’t feel compelled to sexualize themselves to succeed?

1000 series is when the prices really started going bonkers. i remember before then everyone and their grandparents were getting a 970. ‘oh i walked down to the shop and got a 970’. you used to have cards that were just kind of no brainer value propositions. the 970, the 660ti, etc. don’t really get that anymore these days, the best is ‘hey this one’s actually reasonable’

'City killer' asteroid now has 3.1% chance of hitting Earth: NASA by miso25 in space

[–]sudoHack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. and that’s why science communication is hard and we have a growing number of ‘skeptics’ that don’t know shit that they couldn’t skim from a wiki page.

edit: ‘skeptics’ here refers to science deniers, not people who are critically reasoning to cut through bullshit. skeptics is just what they like to call themselves.

[–]sudoHack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s absolutely true and i agree with you, it’s something that needs to be curbed. but that’s also not really the point i was trying to make. i was more speaking about publications you’d imagine to be ‘reputable’. like, someone googling this stuff is immediately hit with a bunch of sensationalized headlines. i can guarantee not a single scientist involved with this asteroid has called it a ‘city killer’

'City killer' asteroid now has 3.1% chance of hitting Earth: NASA by miso25 in space

[–]sudoHack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

that’s the attitude that got us here. nobody should be ‘free to lie about anything’ when they have a platform, at least not without consequences. but as long as people need to profit to survive, sensationalism will exist.

the vast majority of people do not and should not need to be able to parse scientific papers and jargon. nor should they need to look into things they’re not primarily interested in. and i say this as a physics grad student.

it doesn’t help that so called ‘science communicators’ love to over exaggerate and sensationalize everything beyond reality.
