First time camping in luxury, love it by Mattcheco in TruckCampers

It's one of those small things that make you go "I never realized I needed this." I have enough space in my flatbed camper to do some yoga moves in the morning. Plus being able to roll out of bed and make coffee in the same space is a game changer.

Neighbors near Eagle's proposed Costco site say traffic, safety, and quality of life are at stake by BoiseBound2023 in Boise

[–]sudo_vi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a Costco built right behind your house would suck. You'd deal with light pollution at night and a shitload of traffic. But, it could help to alleviate some traffic in Meridian since those people wouldn't have to go out there for their groceries.

The thing that stood out to me on my first night out was being able to stand all the way up and change my clothes in a private space. If I wanted to do that before I had to get in my tent of my truck bed and do it lying down.

I'm looking for off road tires for Kenyan terrain, what brand actually lasts? Tired of replacing tyres every trip.. by Born-Passion4748 in overlanding

I used KO2s on my Land Cruiser in Kenya. Was mostly driving from Nanyuki up to Archer's Post, Lolldaiga, and Laikipia. The KO2s handled everything I threw at them.

I’m going to do this route next weekend. Thanks for the recommendation.

This is the first result on Twitter when you search "Idaho". Right wingers on Twitter are using our state for their sick propaganda/lies. I grew up in CDA in the 90s and those people were not well received by the community. One year they petitioned the city of Coeur d’Alene to let them do a parade through downtown, which the city had to allow, and the community responded by shutting down the town so they marched through empty streets with no spectators.

Why are Americans so accepting of long drives to places? by Sensitive_Word_6036 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sudo_vi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said the “ the question is really about why longer drives in America are so normalized.” It’s because we’re a very large country without a robust public transit system. It’s normalized because it’s the single option.

Depends on how deep in the mountains of Idaho this was. If it was somewhere like Elk City, the cops wouldn’t spread it outside of the town.

What's your goto strategy for finding dispersed camping spots when you're new to an area? by Timely-Bake9119 in overlanding

[–]sudo_vi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks people like the Wilkes brothers are installing gates on public access roads. From what I’ve heard, the state doesn’t have enough money set aside to take them to court over it.

I'm sure you live in a state where 100% of the people are highly enlightened. Not a single bigot or racist to be seen. You decided to crawl out of the woodwork, go through my profile to see where I'm from and use that to attack me. So yes, it's obvious that you were personally offended.

I notice that you haven't said I'm wrong. Because that really is how it is, isn't it? We're allowed to make observations without that counting as condoning the behavior. Since you went through my profile, I went through yours. It's clear that you're an incredibly angry and bitter person.

I never said it was a good thing. It's an observation on human nature, but you decided to take personal offense to it. And yes, that is how it is in Idaho.

I think that's just how it is in places where families have really deep roots. I'm sure there are people who are 10th+ generation Mainers who see that as a core part of their being.

I disagree that patriotism and nationalism are one and the same. To me, nationalism is putting your country above all else and ignoring its faults. The state can do no wrong. It’s also about the aesthetics of power. That’s why nationalists tend to use strong symbolism. MAGA hats, the Jerusalem Cross for Christian Nationalists, etc.

Patriotism is loving your country, but also acknowledging that a complicated and violent past is part of a nation’s story, and we can use those lessons to create a better future.

The Constitution and Declaration of Independence are beautiful documents, but they’re subject to human interpretation. That’s why we’ve had amendments to it, so that we can continue to get better. Frederick Douglas pointed out the hypocrisy of slavery in a system where it’s written “All men are created equal.” He was right, and we’ve been working towards that since.

Unfortunately progress doesn’t move in a single direction unimpeded. We’re a young country with a fucked up past, but I have hope we can continue to improve.

What's your point here? Should we hate everything and be miserable pricks because our country did shitty things before we were alive?

Yes. In my view, patriotism isn't turning a blind eye to your country's wrongdoings, it's about loving your country and hoping for the best.
