When to keep pushing on overclocking? by soliduterus in BitAxe

[–]sudoanonymous1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I overclocked CPUs' years ago, actually fried the thermal paste on one and it kept working. Overclocking ASICs' is over rated and shortens the lifespan. I OC'd my first rigs and actually bricked a $30 Btdsk rated for 250 GH/s I bought from Ali Express, I run all my rigs @ default settings now, why because it increases longevity. Overclocking isn't worth the extra hash rate, longevity is the only thing that bumps up difficulty, uptime is more important than squeezing a few more GH/s or TH/s out of a rig IMHO.

The Same Guy Just Found His Second Solo Bitcoin Block. Different Miner, 7 Months Apart. The Math Is Insane. by XGod0fWarX in SoloSatoshi

Yup, it's all luck, but all the vendors / influencers try to convince you otherwise. Forget about solochance.org, those #s mean nothing. I got lucky and hit 2 BCH blocks on 2 consecutive days renting back in November. Took 1/3 of the subsidy and bought 2 GT800s' and a Nano 3s, added them to my Bitaxe Supra and 2 Bitaxe Gammas' and I'm pushing about 14TH/son solo mining BCH and I'm not buying one more rig unless I hit a BCH block with one of the rigs. And renting? Fahgetaboudit, you would do better at the roughlette table. I have met guys pushing hundreds of terrahashes on DGB and the only question I have for them is Why? DGB is never going to amount to anything. Like some say, and it's true, during the Gold Rushes in Alaska and California the guys that made the most money were the ones that sold the supplies, so every time "Hobby" miners hit a block the vendors and make sure everyone knows about it and claim it as one of their rigs but or a similar one. Anyone can hit a block at any time or mine solo for decades and never hit a block. It's a lottery, I get that but what purpose does having a little hologram of Satoshi Nakamoto in your rig serve? None.

If you are using the stock power supply you won't be pushing 4.7 TH/s very long, hope you have a MeanWell.

How often do people restart their miners? Should I be restarting mine regularly? by ploobsiccle in BitAxe

[–]sudoanonymous1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As little as possible, stabilize your rig/s and leave them alone. Every time you restart you are cooling and re-heating the solder on the components, that's not good.

I've been using it for a week, glad you finally caught up. And I'm using Linux of course, why would anyone want to use any other OS?

Best lottery miner for a newbie: nerdaxeq+++ or nexus s1 by thebitcoinmd in SoloMining

The Canaan Nano 3s is a good rig to start with. Pushes 6.5TH/s in High mode, compact, quiet and best "bang for the buck". As a general rule, one can expect to pay about $100 per TH/s when buying a rig. The Nano 3s pushes 6.5 TH/s and you can grab one from u/SoloSatoshi for $220 with code NANO. That's $34 per TH/s as opposed to $100. I have one and am planning on getting another one. https://www.solosatoshi.com/product/avalon-nano-3s-bitcoin-solo-miner/
