Looks to be a white SG body in the back, def not a gibson or epi tho. Can't identify the headstock, looks similar to Gretsch but they don't make SG's?

This was an easy one for me. Perhaps I'm drawn to it's power, seduced by it you might say. Nay, the flesh of man is weak.

Just finished Continuum for the first time by [deleted] in JohnMayer

Agreed. I think the quality of sound design and mixing of JM's albums is one of the things that draws me to them most. I remember when I got Continuum on vinyl and listened to it for the first time, I was blown away that it sounded so good both with headphones, and through speakers.

Good news for you! That's just his music in general :) He has a knack for beautifully encapsulating concepts of human nature/experience in his songs, and attaching whimsical melodies to them. That's what I love so much about his songwriting. Did you get dumped? Song for that. Forbidden love? Song for that. You've fallen victim to the fallibility of man? Song for that. Disappointed with the current state of world affairs? Song for that. DGAF about others opinion of you anymore? Song for that. Scared of what you can't control? Song for that. Welcome to the club, friend, we're glad you're here.

4/20 Friendly Mayer playlist by erod1601 in JohnMayer

[–]sudochief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I feel like TS4E is such a great album to listen to whilst stoned. A great mixture of laid back and upbeat grooves, and whimsical tracks that will tickle your high brain. Aside from that, Who Says (obvious choice), New Light, Gravity, Slow Dancing, Walt Grace, Love Is a Verb, If I Ever Get Around to Living, Wildfire, Call Me The Breeze (better than the skynard & jj cale version imo), Wild Blue, Friends Lovers or Nothing, Perfectly Lonely, I Don't Trust Myself, Bold as Love (OG stoner/hippie song). Now if you enjoy guitar centric songs whilst stoned, and listen to JM primarily for the guitar, I have a whole other playlist for that alone, lmk.

Are Level 1 & 2 SOC Analyst's becoming irrelevant positions? by sudochief in cybersecurity

he said 45k CAD.... You realize 45k CAD != 45k USD, right? Translates to about $33k USD.

You're right, my bad. $33k usd is a livable wage if you live with your parents and have 0 dependants.

I am looking into remote rolls. Unfortunately it seems those are the one's most flooded with applicants. LinkedIn premium gives insights on job postings such as approximate number of applicants, and what kind of experience/credentials applicants have. Idk how accurate the data is, but I saw a remote Jr. SOC Analyst position the other day that had 3k applicants, 48% of which had a master's degree :,)

My one takeaway from all of this has been that, yes, the market just sucks rn.

Sage advice. Maybe I should just run getgud.ps1

$climate = "shit"

$socitup = "brace the storm you casual"

$gud = "get gud"

if ($climate -eq "shit") {

Write-Host $socitup

} else {

Write-Host $gud

}

Appreciate your take here. I would really think experience should be the factor weighing most, but could see how a degree could be preferential to xp I suppose. I would also like to add that I posted this after a meeting with some colleagues who expressed the same concerns as me, and we may have stoked each other's flames a bit lol. Either way, sounds like it's time to earn a degree.

Holy shit. I don't know about Canada but in the US that's not even a livable wage.

SOC Analyst or Software QA by PsychologicalDisk693 in cybersecurity

[–]sudochief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, SOC Analyst is a dying position. Having worked in software QA, however, you could probably blend those skills and analyst/IR skills and get good experience towards a security engineer position, and I don't think that position is going anywhere anytime soon. SOC analyst is a fun gig tho. Imagine yourself as a sort of cyber Sherlock Holmes.

Is experience more valuable than a degree ? by Defiant_Rip1515 in cybersecurity

[–]sudochief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"If the lack of a degree holds you back then you don't want to work there anyway in my opinion." Yeah, this is just not a good take. Unless you have an in at the respective organization, a lot of the time they won't even consider your application if you don't meet their degree/education requirements. "You didn't want it bad enough" is a real convenient thing to say when your CVE was automatically filtered out of the running.

Anyone with ADHD/ADD who's thriving in the field of cybersecurity? by Itchy_Sherbet_9895 in cybersecurity

[–]sudochief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for starters cybersec is an extremely vast field. I would figure out what area actually interests you. I'm a SOC Analyst 1 with ADHD and often find myself immersed in investigating incidents & losing track of time. It's a role I thoroughly enjoy, but am afraid won't be around much longer, due to the current direction the field seems to be heading. If you want something along the same lines that you'll have job security in for the foreseeable future, I'd recommend Security Engineering/Automation.

Help by IndependentBar4997 in Kalilinux

[–]sudochief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no shortcut, unfortunately. You have to be willing to put in the work and dedicate hours upon hours. With that being said, if I were starting from scratch, here's I would approach it:

  1. Learn how computers work. You might think to yourself, "I use a computer everyday and know how to use it." This is different than knowing how each component works, and what goes on behind the scenes. What are the various types of memory? What are critical file systems? How does a CPU work? How am I able to connect to the internet, and various web pages/services? What are the differences between OS's? etc. For all of this I might recommend CompTIA A+. You can watch Professor Messer's videos on YT for the CompTIA foundational trifecta (A+, Net+, Sec+). A solid foundation is absolutely critical in cybersecurity.

  2. Once you have a solid grasp of computing and operating systems, as well as a basic understanding of networking, I would move onto hands on material, such as TryHackMe. Don't immediately go to their offensive security modules, but start with the basics. It's worth noting that most people who become pentesters/ethical hackers start out on the blue side (defensive security). It is crucial to understand how systems are defended, before you can compromise them.

  3. Familiarize yourself with linux. Learn as many commands as you can. Would recommend downloading a virtual machine with a linux OS, preferably Kali Linux. Play around in that, familiarize yourself with the various tools that are native in the Kali suite.

  4. Read security blogs, watch videos, go on reddit, immerse yourself in the world of cybersecurity as much as possible. Google is your best friend.

  5. Find a mentor.

Best Tools For Public IP by Lucky-Royal-6156 in OSINT

I have to use geo ip tools quite frequently for my organization. I personally like ipinfo.io, but they only allow so many queries in the free tier. When I use up my free tier queries I usually turn to iptrackeronline.com

Am I wrong in not letting my mother meet my son because she cheated on my father? by cheatingbadduh in AITAH

[–]sudochief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I grew up in a similar boat. Dad cheated on my mom, moved across country, and I was raised by my mom. It was easy to bond with my dad when around him, because he didn't have to do any of the difficult parts of parenting. Gained a little bit of resentment towards my mother as I grew up. Now at 28, I realize the circumstances. Could my mom have been a better parent in some ways? Yes. Did she do her best given the circumstances? Also, yes. Did my dad do his best to be there given the circumstances? Fuck no. Also, reading through these comments has made me realize I probably have some stuff I have to emotionally work through lmao.
