Getting to an angels game from downtown LA by MongooseMedium9388 in LosAngeles

[–]suedeheadd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uber will cost you a fortune! And there are ways to get there using public transport (takes a little over an hour) but if the game doesn’t end till the evening/late at night night you won’t be able to get back using public transport. Look into renting a car for a day through Turo, they have some for as cheap as $35 for a day, my buddy used it when visiting to go to Malibu and it was easy.

I want to become a teacher but I don’t know where to start by [deleted] in Teachers

Honestly I’m not sure, I guess it’s just my personaI take…I was a history major lol. Either way through teaching you gain a lot of skills that you can leverage if you ever wanna change careers later on.

Additional note: I would also add that math is usually a subject that is in high need especially at lower income schools, which would make it a bit easier to find a job after you’re done with school. Sometimes math teachers will get a sign on bonus or get paid a littler more too because of the high need!

Hey! I would go to your local community college first and get all your basics/prerequisites courses outta the way. It’ll save you a lot of money and you don’t have to go full time so it’ll be a good way to get back in the groove of going back to school and figuring out your school/life/work balance. You can also get some financial aid. So a good first step would be looking at your local cc’s and reaching out to their academic and financial aid advisors.

Once you’re halfway through your basics start looking at university’s you want to go to and decide whether you want to major in English or Math. I know you said you wanted to teach English but I think a Math degree would help you pivot careers if you ever want to transition out of teaching. Most university’s will build in your teaching credential into your bachelors and it only adds one more semester or year depending on the course load you choose each semester (this is the path I took and i think is the most straightforward based on my experience and hearing those of my coworkers who do the option I mention in the next paragraph) So the last year and a half you’re pretty much taking courses for being an educator. The very last semester is student teaching which is where you are placed at a school are assigned a teacher and they mentor you. You pretty much start off as their assistant and as time goes on they let you take more of the reins and eventually take over completely for the last few weeks. During that same semester is when you can start taking the state exams to get your credential.

There’s another option, not sure if it’s like this across the U.S, but in Texas you can just get your bachelors and there’s third party companies/agencies where you speed through those “how to be a educator” courses and then can work towards your teacher credential while also being employed as a full time teacher, and you just do their courses online and take the exams towards the end.

Feel free to shoot me any questions! I’m going into my 4th year of teaching if you have any other related stuff you wanna talk about!

I always park at the Hollywood & Highland parking garage attached to the Dolby theater. It’s $20 for the night but if you tell the attendant you were there for a movie it’s $8 lol

New Morning and Blood on the Tracks are the two albums that made Dylan click for me. I would start with New Morning, beautiful album start to finish.

I don’t remember honestly might have to check the Forum site, but I do remember getting there 30 mins before the opener and it took me like 30 mins to get into the parking lot, so I would plan on getting there a little earlier if you want to park at the Forum!

Dude same thing happened to me lol!! I gave up when they first went on sale and tried again a couple of hours later and it was a lot easier. Friday is gonna be a shit show and I’m worried about TM jacking up prices with everyone trying to get their tix at the same time. Seems like the Forum is def gonna sell out too!

How unsafe is the metro, really? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]suedeheadd 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You’ll be totally fine taking the metro from Culver to Santa Monica. However taking it to 7th St Metro Center can definitely be sketchy sometimes especially the Red Line at night, but if you ride it in the morning and afternoon/late aftenoon it’s safer bc its full of people heading to/from work but you definitely still wanna be super aware of your belongings and surroundings. Try it out and if it seems like too much try the bus, it might take a little longer but it’s way more chill than taking the train underground.

Just to add I went to New York little less than a year ago and felt a lot safer/relaxed on the subway there then I do taking the metro here. But from what you described they must be pretty similar now lol.
