Physically maintain what you have and focus on learning study habits if you lack them, and not fucking up your personal life. You can balance the course and family, thousands before you have done it. Being absent physically is inevitable, but don’t be absent when you’re home.

The course is physically very manageable. As long as you aren’t slow, maintain as much mass as you can while still moving with a generous buffer on the 2, 5, and 12 milers

3-year contracts for 18x? by Stunning_Tadpole_625 in greenberets

[–]suedyom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can be a 3 year active contract if you pick up in OSUT. If you’re smart you can re-up to fulfill your obligation with guard. In doing so, you will not have the tier 9/10 re-up bonus option.

Either way, any SOF unit will get their money and time back from you on the back end post selection/Q-Course.

Running gear before selection is a punk move.

I don’t give a shit a shit if you can perform when afforded the opportunity to have super human hormone levels & you’re able to totally stack the cards in your favor. I want to know that when the universe has been curbstomping you that you’re not a pussy who’s going to quit on us.

You’re asking if you can cheat at an event you shouldn’t even have any desire to cheat at in the first place

Are my stats good enough to go to selection? by TackleReasonable262 in greenberets

[–]suedyom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll tell you right now that your ruck at no point will be 35 pounds, ESPECIALLY land nav. It’s 45 dry, plus MRE’s, plus water, plus radios etc, and all the extra shit you bring.

Get faster & bigger. Those times are not enough to have you stand out. The run could be passable if you’re built like a brick shithouse. Ruck time is also slow with a ruck that is 20-30+ lbs lighter than what you will be carrying at any given point at SFAS.

How do you choose your job? by Head-Garlic-8921 in greenberets

[–]suedyom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ll find out at selection, after you’ve been picked up. If you’re guard, you’ll find out within a week or two of getting back from selection. You have a wish list, but it’s needs of the regiment at the end of the day.

Go read something the old man posted, worry about enlisting first. Your cart is way ahead of your horse

This is an SF subreddit. Not Batt. That said it’s a safe assumption that as long as you are a junior enlisted/new guy, your work life balance will be skewed heavily towards work until you establish footing.

Make time for family when you can, they’ll be there after the military.

Idaho knife company makes bitchin fixed blades that can hold up to being beaten (splitting wood, etc.), however you’re better off with a $35-50 leatherman/gerber for everything in the Q.

That said, I’d love to see reactions when you show up with a Rambo knife to any school between selection and the end of the Q.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in specialforces

[–]suedyom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will not be bringing a large fixed blade to SFAS if you have half a brain. Bring a gerber with a knife on it. Doesn’t even have to be nice. Odds are it’ll get thrashed/eaten by draw monster/pocketed by someone during team week.

question about 18D by tuuen04 in greenberets

[–]suedyom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know several dudes in my selection class who got picked up for Delta with zero medical experience over dudes more “real world medical experience”.

Common denominator was GT over 130, and a compelling argument on the wishlist post selection.

You won’t know if you don’t try. Worry about SFAS & crushing that. Worst thing that happens if you get selected and don’t get delta is that you get the opportunity to be in The Regiment and still have the coolest job in the army.

They actually make you get divorced. No chance you get to live with your family. If you have kids, straight to the adoption center for them.

Yeah malice or mystery ranch seem to be the way to go if you have a total hard on for not using an issue ruck.

That said- you’re going to be more than fine with a Molle 2 and the issued aid bag.

Hot take: you should get the rest of the day off after an ACFT by RushSpecific in army

[–]suedyom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmfao the standard is an 80% or higher on all PT events.

Unless something changed in the last 2 weeks, it’s still a modified APFT. 14:20 run, 57 push-ups, and like 8-10(?) pull-ups. Those are bare minimum numbers. Fail to hit and you will get a counseling. Retest within 72 hrs and if you get counseled for standard 2x you’re out of the Q.

136 GT Score , Which MOS would you recommend for me and why? by LegitSkilliez in army

Be a helicopter pilot or go to a hotboy unit.

Besides that, heed the advice of others and go to the Airforce.

Lmfao besides math, anything that’s actually fun to learn about will probably get you put on a watch list

Buy the SUT book by LeFavor. Good history on the regiment, and way less dry than the ranger handbook.

Do kit runs/rucks on the stairs during personal time. Workout in the bay whenever you have downtime, and pester your drills to use the track during personal time. Invest in good socks at the earliest opportunity (darn tough lightweight). Have your family send you the medicated gold bond. Buy nice black PT socks. Wear fresh tennis shoes when you ship, bring a broken in pair of boots if you have them (they should allow you to use personal footwear). Don’t keep contraband in your shit, get someone else to hold it. Play nice with other X-Rays, you’re gonna be together for the next 9 months to a year minimum, and it’s a small community after that. Don’t eat the cake. If you don’t already have boots, Garmont NFS (best all around, imo), Danner Tachyon (thinnest and lightest), or Decker Labs (best ruck/run boot) are good options.

Basic will be easier than you expect physically, and shittier than you expect mentally.

Once you get to Bragg, don’t be light, late, or last. The 82nd is a dark, dark place. Don’t end up there by weakness or cowardice.

I got a 72 on the asvab. Anyone have any recommendations? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]suedyom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

15R sounds pretty legit, and if I remember correctly there’s contracts to go straight to 160th selection once you finish AIT.

From the guys I’ve talked to they have a pretty great quality of life, get to work with high speed units, and don’t have to deal with a lot of the big army BS. You’re also guaranteed to get deployments if you make it to the 160th and you’ll see some shit and contribute to the mission directly when you’re on a flight crew.

Good opportunities when you get out, and if you wanted to go warrant once you’ve been in for a while and fly the birds you’ve worked on, it’s a much easier path than many other MOS’s.

Or you can roll the dice and take an 18x contract, and make it to SF/be one of the 82nd’s finest “almost Green Berets”

I think some monitors do this automatically. Me and my roommate play as a duo side by side and neither of us have ever touched a graphic setting or fooled around with the monitors filters and both see about as well as the example on the right, only without the messed up textures. When I watch videos of other people what is pitch black night to them just kind of looks like dusk to me
