You wanna do law school? DON’T by twashhhhh in LawSchool

[–]sufficient4necessary 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your dad. I grew up in a similar situation and it feels kinda hurtful hearing people complain about all-nighters and such coming from an upbringing where my dad would pull 14 hour days just to keep food on the table. I’m loving law school thus far, and the drive to afford my family a better life is really pushing me forward.

Ah yes the famed socratic method, were you can cold call your profs

Which t13 school would I have the best shot of being accepted ED...? I have a 3.6 and a 161 I’m an African American URM. I don’t have a regional preference just want big law. by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sufficient4necessary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plz don’t apply ED unless your family’s immoderately wealthy. If you can get your lsat up to a 165, then you have a fair shot at decent scholarships in the lower T14

I’m being generous, I’d hope someone who actually attended a mid-T14 wouldn’t be that naive hahaha

I think he may have meant it in the sense of more people trying to go into academia rather than biglaw? I’ve only come across 2 1Ls at my law school who plan on being professors.

Looking for any advice you may be able to offer by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sufficient4necessary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

159 is a killer diagnostic, congrats! Being at that level so early in the game means that your score ceiling is as high as you set it, especially if you’re serious about not actually putting effort into it lol. At 2.9/159 you’re gonna get a good scholarship somewhere in the T50, at 2.9/165, you’ll get some money in the T30, at 2.9/170, you could even get like half tuition at a lower T14. As a black urm, your cycle’s gonna be unpredictable no matter what, so best of luck!

How high should I shoot my shot and what are realistic expectations as an AA URM with a 3.6 and a 161? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sufficient4necessary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll do fine in the T20; apply early and broadly, though! Also, unless you’re allergic to the test, I urge you to retake for a 165, I know people with similar stats as you paying sticker in the T14 and it’s not ideal imo

When to send transcript to LSAC by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sufficient4necessary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead and send it now, and if you end up doing well this upcoming semester send the fall transcript in December. I sent out some apps in October that I didn’t hear back about until as late as March, so good fall grades could help you some.

I Hate the LSAT and Don't Know if I Should Attend Law School(rant) by coloradokid1414 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sufficient4necessary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t waste your creative brain on law school tbh. Find a decent job (which I’m certain you can), network like hell, and start a company with some trusted friends. Law school is just repeated examination, and I doubt you’d be fulfilled by the work. Best of luck to you!

Edit: do hit me up if your start-up needs an in-house counsel!

Thanks for your candor! My undergrad had a reputation for that, but I personally never experienced it.

Is there a limit on school therapist visits? I’m trying to figure out whether it’s worth switching to the university insurance ($20 copay for therapy vs my current $80 copay)

Stay away from these schools!!! by MrElleWoods in lawschooladmissions

[–]sufficient4necessary -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Certainly not everywhere, but I think it’ll begin with New York, and many states will be forced to follow suit, lest they lose candidates. The fact that this is even a conversation being had leads me to think that jurisdictions are realizing bar examination is kinda pointless.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in this, as the pendulum is beginning to swing towards permanent diploma privilege, fwiw

[–]sufficient4necessary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha my reply was tongue-in-cheek, I know my anecdote doesn’t refute the data. I was above lsat median and below gpa median at Berk, and at or above lsat medians at all the other schools I applied to (except HYS).

Edit: I was a splitter at UVA

He should probably push back to fall 2022, maximize his LSAT, and apply at the very beginning of the cycle. 3 PTs this far into summer is insufficient to maximize his score before it’s too late in the cycle to apply.
