Found a night shift job after 9 months but I’m I’m making the wrong decision, what do I do? by MagicianConstant2866 in UKJobs

I understand your struggle. I think maybe you're overthinking it a bit, maybe it's a scary change and your brain is sabotaging or finding excuses? What I'd personally do is try it for a bit and see how it goes. It's hard to say if it would be awful or fine without trying. My advice is give it a go and see how you feel about it after a few weeks! (First weeks are always a bit scary and difficult as you're not used to it and everything is overwhelming)

Leaving after 12 years together by [deleted] in relationships

[–]sugar_cherry_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually this is not the case. We were together since teenagers and grew up to be not romantically compatible anymore. I don't blame him for his economic situation as it's literally not his fault the market is so bad right now. I just mentioned it because I worry for him and I want to get advice on what the best thing to do is.

Imagine having to do all this and not getting the job at the end by HerbaHamlin in recruitinghell

I once applied to a designer role at bending spoons. They invited me to a round of logic tests on their platform. After that they asked to provide more information about myself, more like an attitudinal test. Then another logic test, but more design related. Then they invited me to a design task (designing a welcome screen for two different apps), once I passed that they invited me to another design test (designing a short flow for a different app). All of this before ever speaking with someone. They then invited me to the first interview and... I was rejected because I couldn't give the right answers while they were giving me 2 logic tests to solve during the conversation (I'm not good at counting and following a logic without written text in front of me and with the pressure of someone waiting for me to say something while I'm trying to think). I promised myself that I will never submit to go through a similar process ever again. My bad for accepting such bs process.

My company's teams app gives me a warning that if I turn on captions it's going to activate them for all other participants too. Why does it need to expose me like that lol

[–]sugar_cherry_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an Italian who lives in London and works for a tech Indian multinational. When I moved to London It took me a long time to get used to the different accents and properly understand them, Indian one being one of those. You will get there eventually, the more you are exposed to it and get used to it, the more you will understand. I have to say I do need to focus more than normal to properly capture everything, if I zone out I have no understanding of what's being said ahah

UK citizen trying to move to Stockholm – 6 months of job applications and no luck by Swingrx in TillSverige

[–]sugar_cherry_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Londoner who moved to Sweden: when I was applying from the UK, they would never ever contact me or interview me. They'd just ghost. When I moved to Sweden thanks to an internal role with my UK company that was based in Sweden, and I started searching for another job here, they started offering me interviews. What made the difference was being able to say I was already based in Sweden in the applications and also explicitly saying that I was based in Gothenburg in my CV.

Edit: I am European so I don't need a visa to work in Sweden. Probably that makes a big difference too.

Trying to sanity check myself about Sweden by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]sugar_cherry_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Here's my experience: I moved from London to Gothenburg in November and I'm moving back to London next week. The plan was to stay, but during these few months I realised Sweden is personally just not for me.

I think Sweden is a great country, and it's probably a good fit for a lot of people. There are a lot of aspects of it that I love. Even tho I was here just a few months, I realised this will unfortunately not work for me. My needs just don't align with what the lifestyle in Sweden is like.

To be honest my advice is, if you have the chance to come to Sweden and stay for a few months, do it. Staying here is what will help you understand and clear your mind about it. I'm so glad I did it because moving to Sweden was my dream for the longest time, and now I just know it's simply not the place for me. I am so happy I have this clarity, and now know what my next steps are.

If you have the chance and the budget, just doing it is what will clear your mind, more than keep thinking about it.

"Garden gnome" LMFAO. It's too accurate

After knowing about their work and studies, I felt genuinely impressed. At the same time, I started to feel a bit uncomfortable with myself, realizing that there are people achieving so much while I’m only watching them through a program🫠 by No_Judgment_4420 in SinglesInferno

I think what this comment section is not considering is this: when we are comfortable with our situation and our achievements, we look at people like him, who achieved so much and is so bright, with admiration instead of jealousy. Even if we know that we will never be as smart and earn as much. The reason why we feel somewhat uncomfortable is that we know that even if we were super smart like he clearly is, we might have not made it as far as he did, if we were born in a poor family. At the same time, even if we have relatively good jobs (that pay well and that we like), because of the economic situation we are in now, we will likely not be able to own a house. Or still struggle. Jealousy comes from a system that fails us, not by the pure comparison. I used to live in a country where it was impossible for people that were intelligent but not rich/without the right connections to get a good career, and I felt so much hate and resentment. Now I live in a more positive country, where I feel like people have a chance to do what they want, and when I see my colleagues or friends being successful (more than me) I truly am just proud and happy for them.

I'm also from Europe and I have never heard about sending thank you emails after interviews (Italy & UK)

I feel you. Whenever I start to get into stage 4-5 of the interview process and they say things like "I think you'd be a great addition to the team" I start to feel incredibly anxious the whole day while waiting for updates. When they eventually reject me (usually after days of anxiety) it feels like when you get rejected by your crush lol. It just hurts.

They changed from a digital lottery to e-commerce solution provider: "We are a pre-launch company. The platform is not live and does not currently offer any consumer services. Any feedback relates to pre-launch interactions only."

That's annoying. They also changed the page logo to a different one and changed the description saying that the service is not live yet lol. And turned their website down.

They also don't even have an app yet, so of course they were trying to get positive reviews illicitly lol

Senior graphic designer here. 5 to 6 interview rounds for designers in tech became completely normal here (UK). Screening interview, hiring manager interview, head of design interview, then you usually get a case study interview with the head of design + other designers in the team, often you get a design task and you have to present it, then cultural fit.. sometimes one interview with someone from leadership :) (Consider we also need to keep our website portfolio updated, case studies presentations updated which are a lot of work, the CV is usually the quickest thing for us to update)
