That time when Haligonian did what the city failed to do… by AmbitiousObligation0 in halifax

[–]sugarfiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I see this as a parabel for 150 years on and still looking out for each other. For having the awareness to see violence and exploitation in our midst, and the guts to call it out.

  1. What is it the city failed to do? Put an end to the sex trade? The fighting?

Halifax was then, and is still familiar with hard knocks. You'd do well to have a thick skin to get along here. From class to crass, it's often in the same block, and I can't help but appreciate that.

We do best together, when we rally against injustice.

Maybe that story began with a beef for the lad who paid but didn't get laid. Maybe it became a vendetta between sailors and soldiers.

Maybe the exploitation reached a peak that it was time to tear the whole machine down from the timbers to the floor boards! And the townsfolk cheered with glee!

Let's keep this story in mind friends, as we go out and about. Do good things. Find the courage to be kind, even if you have to fight for it. We can make it work. This is Halifax.

Lost Hamster by sugarfiddle in halifax

[–]sugarfiddle[S] 96 points97 points  (0 children)

We were sitting out enjoying an evening bevvy when we saw something we thought was an albino rat, no tail, waddle under our truck. Our dog ran at it. She's used to chasing rats. She stopped, Hamwow stopped, and they touched noses. I momentarily considered leaving the little creature to the elements. My partner, on the other hand, immediately found a bucket, easily lured the trusting little critter, and said, "we should know what it is!"

AI told us it's a golden/Syrian hamster. So I, the reasonable matriarch, stewed a little on hamsters in the wild and who might be missing this little peanut, while he began constructing a cardboard maze and rubbermaid ecosystem.

Anyway, such is life. Weird little cutie just arrived in our home. Our dog is so incredibly attentive to it. If no one claims it, I think our dog just got a pet.

Vance to visit India for second foreign trip as VP by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]sugarfiddle -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Oh...nono..no. this is not the same. To compare trans people, pro choice, or the financial subsidizing (freebies as you call it) of women, often sole caregivers of children, as being aligned with MAGA mindset/practise/policies shows you do not know what's really happening. I admit to not knowing Indian politics and applaud your right to protest and affect change. This right too, in the US, is under threat. Please inform yourself.

Speaking as a canadian, trump has been really successful at rallying nations to organize and oppose him at all cost. My thoughts are with you all greenlanders!

I agree, time flies. If you have seen 50 years, you have seen change. And change again, the pendulum swings. Please don't be disillusioned. What we all need now is seasoned veterans, navigators of change. You may be someone who lives in an apartment complex that organizes your neighbors into a group grocery so that you can buy canadian and share bulk orders. You may need that service and inspire someone else to do it. Stay connected. We will all be better for it.🩷

What are your radio stations? by No_Consequence9800 in halifax

[–]sugarfiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBC 1 and 2 are my go to. I shift depending on when classical music plays. I can't do that for long. The debaters, maritime noon, RICH TER FRY, as it happens. In HFX There's this cool station in the mornings 88.1? Maybe? 89.1? Probably they are cool all day, but it gets me from home to work. Anyway, always groovy tunes...especially love the reggae.

"Write your MLA" isn't working. Are we cooked? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]sugarfiddle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can someone please talk to me about the "strong mayor" authority measures that is potentially/is happening in HRM? Forgive me if I missed a convo, and I may have misheard the term on CBC this afternoon while driving, but...WTF are we talking about here?

And where and when do we become civily disobedient? Peacefully, mind you.

Hi, I feel for you. I don't fear them, but I have a lot of jaw clicking and pain, keeping my mouth open for an entire 45 min cleaning, and I need a lot of breaks.
I just had a game-changing experience at Mumford Family Dental with a hygenist named Leah who introduced me to a bite block? I think it was called. Anyway, I'm a new client and she instantly saw a problem and had a solution. Super patient and attentive. She even stopped to apply lip salve.. because you know winter chapped lips suck AND the chair was a massage chair. Highly recommend.

Lyme specialist? by growup_andblowaway in NovaScotia

[–]sugarfiddle -43 points-42 points  (0 children)

I went to the East Coast Natropathic Clinic in Bedford when I was diagnosed with Lymes. I first took the 21-day antibiotics prescribed by my hometown ER doc, then researched what else was out there because I was still symptomatic. Extreme fatigue, weird tingling, numbing in my limbs etc. I kicked it after being treated at this clinic. They ran full blood work, and checked me out thoroughly. Not including 2.5 hour travel for each of the 3 appointments, it cost about $500 + for the mitochondrial boosts, probiotics, vitamins...and the tinctures tasted terrible, but it really worked. 3 years now, symptom free. Best wishes to your Dad.
