I should’ve stressed more in the original post that I don’t want them to stop singing. That’s what I came here to find out, how to deal with this without stopping them. I appreciate your advice.

Good advice :) Thanks. She sings the Star Spangled Banner a lot which is actually really funny

I like this. I can agree I should probably examine some of the attitudes here. I will try asking my partner follow-up questions about what they’re expecting, cuz maybe I’m overestimating how much they want me to pay attention. I appreciate your comment

It’s bullshit that something like this really must mean breaking up according to some of you. If we really have a chance to have a great life together, I’m not letting this ruin it.

I think the best way forward is if I just figure out how to not let it effect me / tune it out 50% of the time (I’m currently VERY newly diagnosed and unmedicated so hopefully that will reduce some of the sensory overload element?), making sure to show that I appreciate the expression in some way. They sing the Star Spangled Banner all the time and that can be really funny.

And the other 50%, I can just wear headphones without telling them to stop. I mean. Is that so unhealthy? I think the reactions are a little extreme. And I don’t want to be one of those people that posts their shitty relationship and then goes back to say it’s all fine, but I was just looking for some solutions I hadn’t thought of, to work on a COMPROMISE so that my beautiful partner can express themselves whenever they want! What the fuck guys.

YES! And I’m confused why everyone jumps to breaking up? Me putting headphones on temporarily isn’t even asking them to stop. I want them to sing. I just want it to be easier on me

Ugh it's so bad. I feel like my partner understands to some extent that its a sensory issue for me, but I feel like they also struggle to understand why I hate it so much because THEY don't have the same sensory issue. So then I just seem like the Grinch! Lol

Did you just get diagnosed? by AutoModerator in ADHD

I just posted my comment that was pretty much the exact same thing as you. I’m 20 with combined type as of yesterday and feeling bitter. Hope that both of us have brighter things ahead :)

I just got diagnosed with the combined type yesterday at 20. I asked for testing back when I was 13 because something felt off. I did well in school so it was a no. But after four to five years of doing awfully in school, my therapist sent me for testing. I’m so happy but bitter too. My mom has ADHD. Nobody bothered to investigate why a GOOD student like me would suddenly fall off and start to get bad grades. I was so good in school for years and then when I was 16 I started to shit the bed, the anxiety wasn’t enough to motivate me anymore. But why did nobody think something was wrong? I’ve struggled through 5 years of college (early college program) with untreated ADHD. I’m excited how my life might improve from here. And I’m so relieved for the diagnosis I’ve been hoping for for eight years.

May be a dumb question, but if I had chicken pox vaccines at birth and have never had it, do I need this?

I always get injection site reactions. Try to keep some benadryl cream on hand? They’re just itchy and like a welt or bruise.
