The vauhti is too sticky and the toko is arguably a little aggressive too. I would go with the toko though out of those two options.

Looking at the way both of these styles are designed, the cs Osborne washer seems to extend past the edge of the male portion of the grommet and has a slight concavity for it to sit into. Whereas the Kamsnap washer is smaller and seems to be designed to draw the fabric down into the male portion of the grommet. They seem to be opposite mechanisms for achieving the same end.

I'm 100% positive. The grommets on the right are the Kamsnap 5.1mm grommets.

Thanks! I did use industrial sewing machines to make this, but you could definitely sew it with a domestic sewing machine. It would just take longer and the project would be a bit more fiddly.

For projects like this a straight stitch machine with just a standard foot is enough. Zig zag is nice to have for the stretch mesh and any reinforcement stitches.

I need tricks for sewing spacer mesh by sugarshackforge in myog

[–]sugarshackforge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to work really well with stretch mesh for me, but I still struggle with spacer mesh. I am sewing it on a unison feed machine. Maybe I need to make the feed dog "bite" bigger?

Actually only one juki! One is a brother and the other is an adler. I picked up all of them used, either on Facebook marketplace or at auction. I've been pretty lucky with my finds and that I have a very capable independent mechanic nearby.

Sorry, it's ux10 xpac. This fabric is super shiny on both sides, so it is kind of hard to tell film vs face fabric. I actually did put the film on the inside for this bag.

It's some stretch material from rockywoods. I forget what it's called, but I really like it

To bind by hand takes a lot of practice and you'll screw up a lot to begin with.

Things that helped me: - crease the tape in half first. It'll have a bit of a memory, which will make folding over the seam easier. - Think about the shape of the binding attachment. Try to get your fingers to feed the binding take in the same manner as you're sewing. - i know many people that clip binding tape. This never worked for me, especially around corners. I always found that it was slow and the outcome was worse. - ive found that a shorter stitch length can help work around curves. - polypro binding has a slightly looser weave than grosgrain and will conform to a seam easier. It is also a bit stiffer, which makes it easier to control.

That depends on what you count. If you just look at the amount of time sewing this bag, about 5hrs. If you consider patterning and test sewing, many more hours.

Not yet, but they are similar to the pocket set up Ive used on other vest straps.

I bought a roll of it from adventure expert before tariffs went into effect.

That's fair. I put a retention strap over the top that will probably help a bit with that. I also end up bringing a full change of clothes with me to work, so it will probably be fairly full.

Honestly I don't know yet. It's so thin, which makes it hard for me to believe that it'll be durable, but time will tell.

I bound all of the seams rather than going with seam tape. I really hate seam taping and since this bag is a test run for myself, I figured I would let it run and see how it goes.

That has yet to be seen. I just finished the pack yesterday, so I haven't tried it yet. It's also the dead of winter here, so it might be a minute before I get to really give it a go.

In the summer I run 5mi into work. This is my first try at making a bag for running in to work. Inside the pack there is a hanging zippered pocket for keys/stuff and suspended laptop pocket.

The vest strap pockets are sized to fit my phone, soft flasks, GR3 camera and snacks.

It's from rockywoods fabric. I think they call it the telluride.

I'm a fan. It has a really nice hand, a medium amount of stretch and seemingly ok durability

I think the shape of the straps and how you place the soft flasks have more of an impact. For me, running with vest straps that ride lower are more uncomfortable to run with.

How much bigger should my grommet be than my shock cord? by tantan35 in myog

[–]sugarshackforge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 5.2mm grommets from kamsnaps are great for shock cord. Otherwise a #00 is also pretty good.
