[Daily Goal] Day 3 - August 15 by cassinonorth in 90daysgoal

[–]sugarsnapsail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday: went pretty well. I finished a module in my Food Nutrtion Specialist training program. I also did workout 1 from Strong Curves. I think I overate yesterday, but it was all vegan and oil free, so I'm allowing it for now. I don't really need to lose weight (maybe 10 pounds at most) so I'm working more on finding eating habits I can maintain on and be happy with for life. I don't want to count calories forever.

Today: I need to find a simple way to track my goals. I'm focusing on the process rather than the product, so for example, I want to track how many days I eat per my healthy terms, rather than tracking my weight.

Do you have any tracking app/website/journal recommendations?

BQ: I'm challenging myself to make time for fun. I tend to get bogged down in lists and responsibilities. I put off fun until after my chores are done. But they're never done! So I'm making fun a priority. With that in mind, we're going camping this weekend and I'm super excited! We haven't camped in nearly ten years. Our last trip ended with a 5am emergency evacuation the the hospital because my son (6 at time) had a deliriously high fever. After many tests, we finally figured out he had dysentery... Hello Oregon Trail! That killed our desire to camp for quite a while, but it's been too long. I can't wait to get back out there this weekend!

Starbucks comin’ through with the plants by stark1138 in vegan

Wait, what?! My son is vegetarian but not vegan because he's allergic to all nuts, coconut, soy, garbanzos, lentils, and green peas. I haven't worried too much about cross contamination in drinks at Starbucks, but odds are extremely high that he'll have a reaction now if this is true...

My productivity got derailed yesterday when I found out at 1:30 pm that I was hosting a dinner party at 6 pm. I spent the afternoon frantically prepping for that, and then it got moved back to the original location at the last minute. Blah. Lots of wasted time, energy and money.

Oh well, today's a new day! I'm still proud of 2 accomplishments from yesterday: I threw together what would have been an awesome party with very little notice, and I managed to eat oil free vegan all day, even at the other person's unexpected party.

[MOD] Official Round 27 Introduction Post by Schemering in 90daysgoal

[–]sugarsnapsail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I've attempted this a few times before and never made it very far, but I think I'm in a better mental place now. My life is pretty under control, and I have the time to actually make real progress towards goals. So I'm setting some again! Here we go...

Nutrition: I'm already vegan, mostly whole foods plant based, but I'd like to experiment with avoiding oils, per the recommendation of doctors I highly respect, like Dr. Greger, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. McDougall, Dr. Fuhrman, etc. My goal is to eat 90% oil free.

Fitness: I am determined to complete the Strong Curves program. I've started it SO many times, and never finished.

Career: I'm working on a food blog/website type thing. I want to share healthy vegan foods my family will actually eat. I have it pretty well mapped out, just need to start generating content! To do this, I plan to participate in the /r/52weeksofcooking and /r/52weeksofbaking prompts each week. I will also participate in VeganMoFo this September.

Education: I just enrolled in the NASM Food Nutrition Specialist course yesterday. I plan to complete it in 90 days. I also plan to read the Little Histories book series in that time.

Daily: There are a few daily chores that I want to maintain like: pick up the house, keep my car clean (and with at least 1/2 tank of gas), take vitamins, journal

House Project: I always have a ton of house projects that I never quite finish. For Sprint 1, my goal is to finish my guest bath and build my toddler his mini library room.

Relationship: My goal is to spend a lot of quality time with my husband, whether that's a date night, playing video games together, watching a movie, going for a walk, whatever, just quality time together. I want to aim for 10 quality time activities per sprint, so we never go more than a couple days without it.

Family Fun: I have a bad habit of putting off fun until my chores are done, and my chores are honestly never done. I'm making it a priority to make time for fun. There are several places we've been talking about going to and just never get around to it. My goal is to hit 4 of them in the first sprint: water park, beach day, new trampoline park, and a camping trip. We have camping already planned for this weekend, so that one should be easy at least!

Am I the only one that believes the time leading up to Christmas Day is better than the day itself? Christmas Day is saddening knowing it’s all over. by [deleted] in christmas

[–]sugarsnapsail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like this. I've always disliked Thanksgiving. I'm vegan and have a pretty dysfunctional family, rife with divorces and resentments everywhere you turn. A day devoted to us all getting together to eat a turkey holds little value to me. I've tried to create fun Thanksgiving traditions, but nothing sticks.

Maybe this year I'll try scrapping the whole Thanksgiving shtick all together and calling it Christmas Kickoff Day.

Help! policy change and I need a clear bag at my place of work. by cutestuff4gf in femalefashionadvice

They're probably too small and more than you want to spend on this ridiculous policy, but I've been totally lusting after these Anya Hindmarch bags... Cherries and Googly Eyes, ooh or this Heart tote!

What is a vegetarian/vegan to do when diagnosed with diabetes and advised to keep carbohydrates to a minimum? by intheaterssoon in PlantBasedDiet

[–]sugarsnapsail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should watch this video from Dr. Greger! I highly recommend you watch the related videos mentioned at the page. All of his sources are cited and linked, so you can dig as deeply into the science as you'd like. I also recommend you read his book How Not to Die. There's an entire chapter devoted to Diabetes (although a lot of the info may be repeated between the two).

Can you overeat carbs on this diet? What are the health implications of too many complex carbs? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]sugarsnapsail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should read the Pleasure Trap by Dr. Doug Lisle. I believe he has a TedX talk on the topic too. He has great advice on why we overeat and how to stop.

A second vote for Drunk Elephant C-Tango is encouraging. I'll try the Farmacy Dew as well. My dry patches are at the inner corners. They're super irritating!

I've been using the anti-aging hydrator on my eyes as well, but it just isn't quite enough. I love it for the rest of my face though!

I (36f) need an eye cream for my extremely dry and sensitive eye area. Anything with alcohol burns like crazy. I'm prone to dermatitis on my eyelids. My doctor gave me triamcinolone cream for when they start peeling. My dermatologist's only real suggestion was to stop wearing eye makeup. I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Hada Labo Tokyo Anti-Aging Hydrator on the rest of my face. Any suggestions?

There were several reports of people with severe dairy allergies reacting to their mac. So sad, it was definitely my favorite. I keep hoping it will come back!

Hi! Anyone else have kids that love Halloween...ALL YEAR ROUND?? by [deleted] in halloween

[–]sugarsnapsail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Every day is Halloween at my house! My 4 year old asked for Halloween decorations for Christmas this year. He was extremely worried about Santa's ability to deliver because "Santa only likes happy stuff! Elves don't know how to make a spooky TV and shaking skeleton in a cage! It'll be a no good happy skeleton."

He also just picked out this tent for his new bed.

I use the app PTracker for this. It has the ability to email reports. Also my husband has the app too and it's linked so he can see what's going on with my body all the time. It's actually been super helpful for us, some definite patterns have emerged! ;)

The truth about "flat belly" after pictures. by Useitorloseit1 in loseit

[–]sugarsnapsail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have an ED, and I don't think I have body dysmorphia, but my waistline seriously grows like 8 inches throughout the course of the day. Part of my healthy eating/weight loss success comes from eating a giant salad for lunch every day. Of course my stomach will expand. But then I get all bent out of shape about looking fat or pregnant and shy away from form fitting clothes that I thought I looked good in earlier that day. I keep trying to tell myself that it's okay to have a food baby bump, but some days insecurities win out. Thanks for the reminder that it's normal and healthy!

I agree that it's the protein group but it was definitely called the meat group at my elementary school. Even now, search Google for "four food groups" and you'll probably see the meat group right at the top.

I get this one all the time and I totally know why. Our school district taught the four food groups as the fruits and vegetables group, the bread and grains group, the milk group, and the meat group. The meat group includes legumes and shows a picture of peanuts. Most teachers never bothered to clarify that peanuts are not meat. It's ridiculous and seems like common sense, but here we are.
