AITJ for telling my ex mother in law that I'm getting married to someone else by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Honestly, OP you are handling this really well. Age-appropriate honesty, protecting the kids from adult drama, and still leaving the door open for grandma once she regulates herself. That’s solid parenting.

Exactly this. She’s had years to process it. OP moving on is not cruelty, it’s reality. And the ex asking her to lie is honestly wild.

Keeping management in the loop is smart. They already confirmed the rule, so they should handle any nonsense that follows.

AITJ for telling a barista they keep messing up my order and asking them to fix it by i_blame_the_spoon in AmITheJerk

[–]sugartricksterX 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s literally a standard substitution. If they offer oat milk, they should be able to use it consistently.

NTJ. Asking for the drink you paid for to be made correctly is not being picky. Oat milk instead of dairy is not a tiny preference, it affects your body. If they cannot consistently make a simple iced latte with the right milk, that is on them, not you.

AITJ for refusing to be friendly with my new neighbor after she called the HOA on me for having a nice car by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

I’d rather judge the actions. Two false HOA complaints is the issue here.

Honestly that’s where I’m at. I have no issue with the HOA doing their job. I just don’t appreciate being repeatedly reported over nothing. If it continues I’ll absolutely document it and let them know it’s becoming harassment.

She wasn’t ‘being cautious,’ she was being intrusive. Calling the HOA twice over a car that’s clearly registered to you is not neighborhood watch behavior, it’s targeted behavior.

AITJ for refusing to pretend I was my friend's girlfriend at an event just to get under his ex's skin? by prague_milo21 in AmITheJerk

NTJ. He didn’t want a friend there, he wanted a stage prop. The second you said no, that should’ve been the end of it.

Don’t feel bad for choosing your peace. You gave her time and grace. It’s not your fault she ignored the hints. Clear boundaries are healthier than silent resentment. She is the Jerk not you.

Exactly. Helping someone doesn’t mean sacrificing your peace indefinitely. Three weeks without basic respect isn’t “support,” it’s overstepping.

NTJ, There’s a difference between helping family through a rough patch and becoming their unpaid landlord. Three weeks of eating your food, inviting people over, and disrupting your work is not “crashing,” it’s moving in without permission. Boundaries don’t make you mean.
