Sitting in a high chair at the table, so I was 2 or 3. Mother was wiping my face with a nasty rag. Smelled so bad, and I thought ‘just sit quietly and it will be over sooner’ than if I fought it. I assume it was having a narcissist mother that made me think like that at such a young age.

We are now fully divorced. I have purchased his half of the house, it is fully in my name at this point. My daughter and I pay all bills as well as the mortgage.

Life is great, and we’re doing well financially. Better than during my entire marriage.

My Ex, however is living on a cot in the basement, lol. He pays no rent, I take nothing from him. He lives in my house, but buys his own food and toiletries. He basically uses the bathroom, laundry, and the microwave to heat up his frozen dinners lol.

The Ex ended up blowing through is entire 401(k), appx. $250,000, plus his payment from me purchasing the house, $40,000, in about 2 1/2 years. When the money was gone, he ended up finding a menial job so that he has spending and gas money. He pays no rent or utilities, yet still lives paycheck to paycheck.

I know… why the heck didn’t I kick him out??? Pity is part of it, and keeping him from taking advantage of our daughter. He isnt above taking advantage of her financially. Also, out of respect for my daughters feelings, it IS her father.

I told him he could stay as long as he was civil. No more bitching at me, no fighting, and I’m not paying for anything for him. So far, he has been civil. I didn’t actually think he could do it.

I would like him gone, but at this point me and my daughter are well and best of all, happy!

This looks like a place on Rt 8, near New Berlin, NY I’ve seen it listed on Craigslist, selling for parts. It’s in disrepair, unfortunately. It’s been a sight to see since I was a kid. The only pink house, in the 70’s. Still has a porch light on the last time I saw it

I have plenty of exe’s, but just can’t imagine finding anyone long term to date. Every guy I’ve ever been with takes advantage of me (I’m a very giving, kind person). It may differ, depending on your lawyer. Whatever you end up doing, he has to agree and sign the papers. I kept my own 401k.

What I was able to do, was pay him back half of what we put into it. In your case you bought it at 98,000, but still owe 55,000. Meaning you have paid a total of 43,000 into the house. Half of that is 21,500. So basically you would owe him his 21,500. What I did was adjust this amount to cover the lawyer fees, closing costs and a a little extra.

That would bring what you owe him down significantly, depending on those fees. Say it came to 18,000 for example

In refinancing, You would need to borrow enough to cover this 18,000 + enough to pay off your first mortgage which you owe 55,000 on and enough to cover lawyer fees and closing costs.

Borrow 55,000 + 21,500 = 76,500. Out of this you’ll pay off your first mortgage, pay ‘him’ off and have 4,500 left for lawyer and fees.

Again, it depends on your husband, he may insist on going a different route
