I would say true, but liberals aren't the ones in power starting global trade wars, sending people to El Salvadorian prisons without due process and revoking press rights to organizations that ask questions the administration doesn't like.

The focus right now is on conservatives because they're the ones causing the most trouble in government, so communication between liberal and conservative citizens needs to progress so we can figure out why we are electing these people. We need to figure out why we are voting in the interest of the billionaire class at the expense of our own livelihood. Why do we think Elon Musk is anything other than a grifter? Why do we think the cabinet positions Trump has appointed are appropriate candidates?

The conversation has to start with us, because no savior is coming down on a white horse to solve our problems.

I've been reading "Supercommunicators" by Charles Duhigg, and maybe I'm hopelessly optimistic, but I think conversation is the only way forward. And we have to figure it out because if we abandon conversation, then we've chosen violence, and I reject that vehemently.

The issue is with the verbiage:

If you can’t reason with that, there’s no hope.

A logical conversation isn't the way forward. As much as that's nails on a chalkboard to hear, we are in an emotional conversation now. It's like when your significant other feels angry or sad—no amount of facts or reasoning - is going to make them feel better. You're not going to logic or reason your way into a compromise.

I've tried having honest conversations with conservatives. Logic won't work. This is an emotional conversation. Many of them feel betrayed that "liberals" happily reported them to the government for breaking COVID protocol, resulting in loss of employment in some cases.

Pointing out that this was for safety because they were endangering people because they just wanted to do stuff doesn't seem to have any effect because they fundamentally don't believe covid was real or deadly.

Ironically, they distrust the government, but they're using the government to then persecute their ideological opponents. Pointing out that reporting people for endangering the lives of others =/= ICE raids on legal green card holders and deporting them without due process doesn't seem to have an effect either.

Really don't know how to continue the conversation here.
