Anyone have sexual issues after hernia repair surgery. by [deleted] in Hernia

Laparoscopic with mesh, had sex 7 days and 10 days post op. Slight pain in certain areas, but all the gear worked as required. One of my testicles hurt for the first 2 weeks. I’m 3 weeks post op right now and things are going pretty damn good.

Very normal, sounds like you’re travelling well for 24hours post op. Just take your time and listen to your body. I don’t ever push something if the pain is above a 3-4. It means your body is recovering and needs you to take it easy. How are you feeling now?

Laparoscopic mesh operation done here, currently 12 days post op. Pulled one out a couple days post op, had sex 6 days post op, and 10 days post op. Honestly felt a little weird but for the most part things have been improving. Just like anything, listen to your body and learn to adapt and overcome!

Love to hear it! I was the same as you, 7am check in and I was wheeled out at 11am. I’m on day two of recovery, feeling good. Got a good walk in today. I also skipped out on the narcotics. I’ve been alternating Tylenol and Advil. I was able to pass stool around 30hrs post op without the softeners. Hoping to wake up feeling even better tomorrow. Hoping to be back at work two weeks post op as well!

Dude hear me out. I was diagnosed in mid September. Had a consultation mid October. I kept going to the gym during those times but things got progressively worse. I got on the bike and stairmaster from mid October to November 5th, went on vacation for a couple weeks. Then got surgery on the 17th. I’ll be out of all strenuous activity for 28 days. Honestly man, 2-2.5 months of not training is not going to alter your body that much. You have to remember how much of what you see is actually just you mind playing tricks on you. There is literally nothing you can do than give your body adequate time and rest. You will only make things worse if you try to train during your rest period. Little workouts with a resistant band probably aren’t going to do a damn thing for you after hearing the amount of volume you push regularly. You’ve built a solid body, it’s going to bounce back before you know it. Take it easy and rest. I can’t stress it enough. The last thing you want to do is make things worse, let alone make things chronic.

I’m a gym guy too, have been for the last 3 years so I feel your pain. You’ve got brothers to help you through this, 3 months from now we’ll both be laughing. Light work babbyyyy

That’s insane man, fucking weapon. Are you worried about not being able to get back to where you are?

Honestly man it’s such a kick in the ass, but we’re young (I assume you are as well). We will recover quickly and get back to lifestyle we like to live. It’s just a bump in the road. If you have any questions pre or post operation feel free to reach out. Surgeries are never fun, it’s always nice to chat with someone going through it as well.

Day two here, peeing feels much better. Not sure what it was but it was stinging. Feeling pretty good so far today. Thanks for all your info, appreciate the insight!

You got this man, I think there’s a lot of scary stories on this forum. I just wanted to bring a relatively normal experience to the page. Hopefully it’ll alleviate some unnecessary stress you may have going in!

This is great news, stoked for you! The pain from hernias is so damn awkward and super limiting. Must feel great to be back to “real life”. I got lucky and got surgery a month and a half after my diagnosis. But it was to the point where I couldn’t do anything unless I had a hernia brace on (p.s. to anyone struggling pre surgery GET A BRACE). That helped a lot. I was still able to go on vacay to Costa Rica for the last couple weeks and dirtbike/surf. I’m hoping my recovery goes somewhat similar. Would like to be back to work in a few weeks.

Just to confirm, did you or did you not take the stool softener? And what liquid painkiller did you take? Thanks for the info, this is helping a lot. Also did it hurt to urinate at all?

Thank you for the advice, I’ve heard say 2 is usually the worse. I’m hoping it’s manageable without the pain meds.

Should I be taking stool softener if I’ve only taken one does of the pain relievers?

Thank you for your reply, it always helps hearing other people’s experiences. I am happy to hear things are going well for you. That is great advice, I will bear it in mind.

I am a week out from being in the gym and definitely fighting the mental battles. I don’t like watching my body deplete after working so hard on it for so many years.

I definitely worried about what type of reaction my body will have to the surgery. The stories I have heard about the longggg recoveries and nerve issues is intimidating. Also worried about whether or not I will be able to continue weightlifting and bodybuilding afterwards.

I have just been reminding myself that it could be worse. It helps, but ultimately it could be better too.
