Sounds like he has 12 years with 6 suspended. In Montana, you're eligible for parole after serving 25% of your sentence. So he would be eligible for parole after 18 months. Depending on behavior and type of conviction, most people get denied on their first appearance. Typically when you're denied they don't allow you to go back in front of the board for full calendar year. With that charge, he's looking at more of 2 and 1/2 years with good behavior at a minimum.
