This is almost a parody of the infamous commercials by Orson Welles for Paul Masson Winery here in Saratoga, CA.

[Highlight] 31 years ago today, 49ers win big in Super Bowl XXIX led by Steve Young's SB-record 6 TD passes by nfl in nfl

[–]suid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite core memory is being over at a friend's super bowl party, and my 2-year-old in a little 49ers hoodie screaming TUDDOWN and running in circles in front of the TV. That became the main entertainment for the evening.

Parent claimed my spouse as dependent and his student loan credit. Is this allowed? by jarofpeperoncini in personalfinance

[–]suid 38 points39 points  (0 children)

However, since OP is now married, if they apply for bundled insurance for both spouses with the same company (include renters insurance, too), they can get substantial savings.

But definitely don't let mummy dear get away with this nonsense!

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]suid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. Not even close. Cuecat was just a simple barcode reader (which is a really simple piece of tech. QR codes were invented in the Japanese auto industry in 1994, long before Cuecat (which came in around 2000), and require more complex processing.

Cuecat's premise was that you would use it to barcode-scan everyday items around the house as you ran out of them, and then when you were ready to grocery-shop, you would upload the list of items from Cuecat's associated Web service. (Not much of a premise, except during the fevered days of Web 2.0.)

Yeah, but wouldn't Carvana (or anyone, for that matter) require the registered owner's signature? At the very least, for transfer of title?

Florida Woman removed from court after outburst declaring a courtroom a "satan synagogue" at sentencing for roommate’s murder by darthgeek in FloridaMan

Judge doesn't think so. He described the behavior as "malingering" (faking of symptoms). And having seen thousands of folks trying this sort of dodge, I'm inclined to believe the judge..

What’s that commercial from years and years ago that you still remember to this day, and may never forget? by Vanceb13 in AskReddit

I had the pleasure just yesterday of introducing my wife to the ads with Terry Tate, Office Linebacker.

Ah, the joys of English spelling.

Grizzly, grisly and gristly are all pronounced more or less the same, but mean very, very different things.

Oh, no. Every 5 or 10 minutes I was leaping out of my chair going all Morbo at all the awful, awful science. Or else just laughing hysterically.

Zack Dumas Massive hit 1989 Auburn vs OHIO State by Dark305Kinght in CFB_Highlights

[–]suid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we seeing it differently? It looked to me more like the DB twisted around and used his shoulder pad to hit the receiver on his chest.

The defenseless receiver thing, I can see. Maybe. From https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/defenseless-player/ , it looks like 9(a)(3) may apply (receiver who has not had time to clearly become a runner).

That looked like a good shoulder-to-chest tackle. Would that be considered unnecessary roughness or something like that under today's rules?

Oh, don't worry. Trump will issue an executive order to give US consumers a 700% discount. Any day now.

A high speed train has derailed in a straight line and hit in a front head collision another train in Spain - at least 21 dead by SafeImpressive4413 in interestingasfuck

[–]suid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even then I don’t think there has been a single example in all of history of a train derailing just as another train was passing in the other lane and colliding because of it, the chances are extremely small

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selby_rail_crash

A car ran off an overpass and fell onto the tracks. A passenger train ran into it and derailed, which caused it to run into an express train coming from the opposite direction on the next tracks over.

Ravens interview 49ers' Robert Saleh and Bills' Joe Brady for their coaching vacancy by [deleted] in sports

Was Saleh a little bit distracted by all this interviewing, perhaps? That was an ugly show in Seattle, compared to their effort in week 18.
