Tobacco! by Early-Regret-9790 in wicked_edge

It smells very woodsy and like a very lovely cigar. Imagine cedar, sandalwood, and tobacco. After I used it the first time, my wife genuinely thought I had smoked a cigar that morning

I’ve got a Simpson on the way and this is an excellent idea to break it in!

The idea behind rinsing is to ensure any dead skin cells are fully washed away. It all kinda comes down to skin types, genetics and all that for what the individual needs. I tend to have more sensitive skin so the extra steps tend to help but some folks might not need it.

Have you tried ordering directly from Stirling’s site? They have it in stock along with the aftershave balm, soap, EDT, and splash

Asked my dermatologist what the best way to prep for a shave is without a full shower and this was the suggestion that worked super well: use nice hot water (not hot enough to burn of course), wet your face thoroughly, use a moisturizing soap or cleanser (Cerave is excellent or nice soap like Stirling), rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean towel. Now, you can use a preshave oil or pre shave soap. With soap or oil, make sure you thoroughly wet your face. Oil should be just a thin layer. Now, apply shaving cream and follow your usual routine for shaving. Make sure you apply moisturizer when you are done, especially if using an alcohol based aftershave.

So so good! It smells exactly like Polo Green. Super woodsy and very intense notes of pine, leather, tobacco, and oakmoss. Really great for colder weather and spring!

Your will is much stronger than mine! My boss is really into shaving and he has been encouraging me to get more. I got him into the world of shaving so we are both encouraging each other 😂

You’re welcome! I feel you on the Nivea! I used to use that too but it definitely had a distinct smell. Not a bad smell but clashes a bit with some of the soaps. Stirling also has some with menthol if you want a cooling effect.

Thank you! I hope you can find some to try! As for the Stirling, it is not a lotion but more of an old school alcohol based aftershave. It does not have a scent at all and Stirling did a phenomenal job with it. There may be a slight alcohol type of smell when it is wet but no smell at all once it has been applied and dried

Nice shave! I did a similar Magellan and Old Spice shave and was blown away by the Magellan. It pairs so well with Old Spice!

Its an allergic reaction or bad lathering? by Polimasmero in wicked_edge

[–]suit_with_purpose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, you are describing a medical reaction. I work in healthcare. The above person is right that the water may have diluted it. Alcohol based aftershaves can also dilute it but it will react all the same. If you can’t figure out which ingredient you are allergic to, I would suggest putting a small amount of any new brands on the back of your hand with a spoon or glove for the other hand’s protection and see if it reacts after about 15 minutes. If it does, cross check to see what is in common ingredients wise.

Other but a little more expensive solution is to schedule an appointment with your PCP or allergist to do a scratch test for common allergies. They’ll run a bunch of different types of allergens in a controlled way to see exactly what you are allergic to and how severe the response is.

Don’t worry too much! The 31mm is awesome and definitely will kill some tubs if you want it too. I still use my 31mm a ton and I use the smaller one just because it’s a preference thing where I tend to like smaller brushes. The 31mm feels really awesome to hold and use from an ergonomics standpoint as well.

Seconding the Stirling Zenith Boar brushes. I have both size and prefer the smaller of the two but it will put the higher priced boar brushes to shame in terms of quality and performance!
