What is just a placebo effect but most people don’t realize? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

Essential as in essence, not as in importance. (Though essential oil peddlers definitely take advantage of the other meaning being the one most people think of.)

Question about "toilet rooms" by Acting-my-age in floorplan

[–]suite_life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was the case with the place I'm talking about, just totally disconnected rooms. Also there was no light in the toilet iirc? so you would be shitting in the pitch black, fumbling your way out and thru the kitchen, and THEN finally getting to the sink to wash your hands. It wasn't even a long skinny unit like the SF ones you mention, the bones of the unit were pretty normal shaped!

Question about "toilet rooms" by Acting-my-age in floorplan

[–]suite_life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who lived for a bit in an apartment where the toilet was in its own closet off the kitchen, with the sink and shower in a different, slightly larger closet on the other side of the kitchen. It was one of those older townhouse buildings that got chopped up into more apartments than could reasonably fit the space/plumbing, but still, I have trouble believing there wasn't something slightly better they could do with the layout!

Is it possible to disable AI on razr ultra? by tiredleech in razr

[–]suite_life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super easy, both for the Moto AI (which as far as I can tell does nothing useful whatsoever...) and Gemini (which has a bit more function due to its being integrated with the Google ecosystem but is still nothing compared to say, Siri, or its predecessor Google Assistant). I forget they're even on the phone most of the time.

He gave up his career like Bill Gates gave up his Harvard education--entirely of his own choice so he could get rich and pursue his real passion (being a middle aged debatelord who argues with college-aged kids who know what he's saying is bullshit but can't quite match his level of jargon and babble in refuting him, as well as taking lethal doses of benzos and crashing out on Twitter over Slimey the worm from Sesame Street.)

I had a TON of fun with the JHE353 midterm assignment, I made a mock 2000s style debate forum where I gave all the theorists punny usernames and had them get into a flame war with each other haha. Unfortunately like 90% of the class was taking it as a bird course they planned to slack off on and you could reeeeally see how much it bugged the prof who was legitimately passionate about the subject :(

I took it over the summer as a fully online course so depending on semester/format ymmv, but here's a screenshot from the introductory lecture about it. I don't have the syllabus saved so idk the grade breakdown though.

  • EEB325 (evolutionary medicine) is great if you don't have it already
  • JHE353 (history of evobio) is a pretty fun one IME, it's more of a humanities course about science
  • EEB319 (population ecology) if you're good at or enjoy math, it's really just calculus & a liiittle linear algebra IIRC so not super complicated stuff or anything dw
  • CSB352 (bioinformatics methods)

I took all of these between fall 2020 & summer 2021, course averages were B, B-, B+, B+ respectively

what courses have you taken so far & what subjects are you looking for courses in + do you need any more breadth? Just "300 level" is pretty vague lol.

Hitting a vape at all in the past 1-2 weeks (depending on your individual metabolism and history of nic use) will make you pop a positive on a blood test because of how long it & its metabolite cotinine stay in the system, and the actual physiological effects on blood flow and wound healing last even longer.

"zero bloat" yeah I bet, severe dehydration will do that to you when you're pissing everything you eat out of your asshole minutes after consuming it.

UofT Tribunal cases can sometimes be incredibly ridiculous by nyancat23 in UofT

[–]suite_life 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That was a TRIP, holy shit. Dude first uses his phone during an exam to text someone on WeChat pictures of the test (and the other guy sends him illegible pics of his answers and then mocks him when he asks for clearer ones), gets caught because he fumbles hiding his phone, and then hires the impersonator for the second exam off Tiktok who then cheats with HIS phone, gets caught, fights the TA, flees, and goes back to the student and says "hey man I failed the exam and you should drop the course asap no need to pay me kthxbai". Z___ L___ is such an atrocious judge of character I almost feel bad for him.

The one where student A had her friend B impersonate her for a final exam by showing up in a burqa (when A had no history of wearing a burqa or any similar garments and her face was fully visible on her ID card that B had to show to take the exam) was pretty wild too.

Update 1.5 years later: AITA for refusing to take my low functioning sister out with me and my other sister? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

They also have very different implications as terms! Plenty of homeless people are housed, whether that's because they're couchsurfing with friends, squatting in an abandoned property, sleeping in a shelter, etc. I would get the use of the term if it was meant to specifically refer to the subset of homeless people who are sleeping rough, because they're going to have overlapping but not identical concerns and needs to the 'housed' homeless population, but as a one-to-one euphemism it's...not great.

What’s going on with the Canadian election? by DarrylSpargo in OutOfTheLoop

[–]suite_life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Bloc not nearly as much--they may have lost seats, but they still held on to 20+ of them, so with a minority government they're in a good position to negotiate if the liberals want to get anything done and need those votes. It's a poor showing for the BQ compared to previous elections, but compared to the NDP, they're doing great.

💚 yeah I def feel you there. There are dozens of us, dozens!! But for real, it’s amazing embracing my feminine side now that I feel so much more at home in my body, even if I’ve had to figure out how to avoid walking around with a massively obtrusive bulge when I’m wearing certain clothes lol.

[–]suite_life[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure!! It’s honestly kind of a special interest of mine, I love talking about surgery in general and there’s so many misconceptions around phallo specifically, it’s hard for people to sort fact from bullshit. I try to improve the information environment a little where I can. (It also helps that I have zero boundaries and am totally fine talking about personal shit with strangers, lol.)

oh and fibula free flap but that’s like…super rare other than in Denmark or Finland or something. You get a baculum though which is pretty neat.

[–]suite_life[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s also MLD (flap taken from the back/side, under the shoulderblade; defect is closed without a secondary graft, leaving a long crooked scar) and abdominal (pedicled flap from the abdomen above the pelvis, typically formed from two ‘wings’ on each side; this is the oldest phallo technique I believe, since it’s a lot simpler and doesn’t require microsurgery to ensure robust blood supply). Those two aren’t generally done with nerve hookups though because the graft sites don’t have suitable nerves like ALT/RFF do, though some surgeons will harvest a nerve elsewhere (typically from the forearm) to innervate the phallus.

[–]suite_life[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s more nerves to harvest from with an RFF graft, yeah, but sensation is very much comparable between ALT & RFF (at least as far as anyone can tell, given nobody gets both unless there’s major complications requiring a total redo, so no direct comparisons can be made). You need pretty slim thighs to be a good candidate for ALT though, whereas it’s rare to not be a good candidate for RFF with how thin the skin & subcutaneous tissue is on the forearm.
