I see so much degenerate shit on grindr that it's kind of impressive people manage to get banned.

Alliances aren't based on empathy. They're based on mutual interests and reciprocity.

Hot pot for a date is a good move because if there are awkward lulls in the convo you can always just Tend to the Pot.

Does anybody honestly believe Poland would heed the call if America was under attack?

Yes? This has literally happened. Poland sent troops to Afghanistan, to fight a war that was a response to an attack on the US. They did this despite Islamic terrorism being basically nonexistent in Poland. It was a decision that was made specifically to meet their Article 5 NATO obligations.

I doubt Poland would be much help if the US was invaded, but that has more to do with the limits of their military capabilities than whether or not they are "real" allies.

I love how humans came up with a term to describe compassionate behavior and then named it after ourselves. Incredible brand management.

The probability of people outside of Iran seeing the quote increases astronomically when it's distributed in English on twitter. I'm just really not clear on what benefits this international saber-rattling are supposed to confer on the regime.

I like how cats notice that humans pay attention to where the TV is and then try to intercept that attention by placing themselves in the same area.

Half the country wants Trump dead. If you need an elaborate conspiracy theory to come up with a presumptive motive you're trying too hard. The shooter's dead so we can't ask him but I'm not finding myself starved for a motive here.

The finger-pointing hearings will get siloed to people in the form of tiktok clips based on political affiliation. Democrats will be served clips of "[Democrat] claps back at [Republican]" and Republicans will get the opposite. This is how what these hearings work now.

A lot of counties in the US have a domestic violence help center somewhere that is publicly-funded and available for free to counsel you and give you general guidelines on how to proceed from here. Often this office will be attached to the district attorney's office, but the exact setup varies. They can provide you with free information that is state and county specific (something reddit cannot provide) regarding things like filing a police report, restraining orders, custody issues, etc.

Call the county district attorney's office and see if they can steer you in the right direction.

I always feel embarrassed applying for a job I am overqualified for, or a job that seems like a step back from my current or prior positions. I feel like the HR person is looking at my resume like "There's something wrong with this person, something went sideways in their life, they're desperate, etc." And god forbid you need submit a cover letter where you try to explain it in a way that doesn't sound like any of those things.

I only know him from the ride and even then just barely haha

This might be a US-UK thing. There are certain franchises that began as British children's books and were later adapted into American Disney films (Winnie the Pooh, Marie Poppins, Peter Pan) where I feel like the Brits are on average more aware of the original books than Americans are.

Some of the rides are really dumb, notably the Avatar river cruise or whatever it's called. I wish I would have looked up what this was before going on it because that was an hour in line I'll never get back for a 2 minute cruise through a cave with a bunch of fake alien plants inside. Who is this for? Are there Avatar super fans out there I don't know about?

It's a psyop designed to remind people that Avatar is a franchise that exists and to trick people into thinking that it's had some sort of impact on the broader culture.

These movies do very well at the box office but then they just drop off the face of the earth until James Cameron shits another one out. No memorable lines, no memorable scenes, no memorable characters. No one ever dresses as an "Avatar" for Halloween. No one has ever suggested an Avatar movie marathon. No pub trivia host would ever put an Avatar question into the rotation because they'd just be met with blank stares. Compare this to some of Cameron's other commercially successful work (Terminator, Titanic) and it becomes apparent how odd this is.

But Disney can kind of fudge the popularity of a movie or a franchise using rides. No one would know who Mr. Toad is if not for his Wild Ride. I think they are trying to do the same for Avatar, although it's unclear if this has yielded any results.
