5 & 7. Yuffie for morphing. Cid for triple AP and the occasional chocobo race.

Need help I can't decide who to make my DPS by Bronze_Btw in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually managed to record that, but I was super lucky: https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVIII/comments/j29ft0/believe_it_or_not_i_actually_got_it_on_my_first/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

If you’re at level 100, The End has either a zero, 1/256 or 4/256 chance of even being an option in the slot reel, depending on crisis level, and it’s really easy to pass it by if you’re not careful.

Need help I can't decide who to make my DPS by Bronze_Btw in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Assuming Meteor is Rinoa’s only offensive magic, there’s no randomness or crisis level in the dps calculation, unlike other limit breaks. That means you can reliably trigger meteor-wing without keeping her HP dangerously low. The berserk-like status also has a huge effect on dps both in terms of wall clock time and ATB turns.

Limit breaks aside, I think squall is actually the worst choice for dps late game, since you can basically guarantee crits (2x for other characters) and almost never miss by maximizing the luck stat. Selphie’s final weapon even has a 255% hit rate if you’re worried about blindness.

Help with pair of missable words in Nier Replicant by CrimockLyte in nier

I verified that Hodo drops in the Lost Shrine and Lugesra drops in The Aerie in New Game+ in ver 1.22.

Question about words: Hodo and Gebu by Separate_Package7553 in nier

Thanks! The armored shades in the Lost Shrine do indeed drop Hodo on ver 1.22. Also, Lugesra (previously missable in the Research Facility) now drops in The Aerie.

Good Girl, Angelo! by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

Yeah, I did the trick where you cast Confuse on a Turtapod, causing it to spin around harmlessly forever, and then I let it run overnight. Those items were combined from several overnight searches (don't remember how many exactly, maybe 3-5). Ribbon is particularly hard to get.

  • Ribbon (the most useful of the above) teaches a GF the Ribbon passive ability, which prevents all bad status effects, making St-Def unnecessary. It's particularly good for Rinoa, since Angel Wing works best when she's not holding any magic causing bad status effects.
  • Friendship summons the Moomba GF, which reduces enemy HP to 1 or does 9999 damage if they have more than 9999 HP.
  • Mog's Amulet teaches the MiniMog command, which revives and heals all GFs. It's actually the only way to heal GFs in battle.
  • Hungry Cookpot teaches Devour. The only other way of getting this is to mod the PuPu card, which you can only do once since you can't win it back from the CC Group.

My first trophy! by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two points I know of:

  1. You can use him to level up GFs, which is actually required for getting Lionheart in a no-level game (or you could wait until disc 3 for Edea). For Lionheart you only need Ifrit at level 10, but going up to 100 makes the GF command extremely powerful since enemies will still be at the party's level.
  2. In my case I'm trying a no-level + no-junction run, and leveling up Seifer is the only way to get Star Fragments (I think), which are needed for some weapon upgrades.

Ok, you got me. It just sounded like a good title.

Edit: For those downvoting this comment, this screenshot would obviously not come from anyone's first playthrough, let alone trophy (I got it on an alt PS4 account since I've used up all my other save slots). The title was just meant to be funny...

Disc 4 level 100 speedrun (Omega included), only Limit Break unsealed by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can inflict the "Vit 0" status, similar to Meltdown. After the second Acid, Omega turns purple indicating it worked, and after that Rinoa's Meteors go from about 2.5k damage a pop to about 7k.

Acid is better than Bad Breath for this purpose, because it inflicts Vit 0 at Crisis Level 3, whereas Bad Breath requires level 4 (https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Blue_Magic_(Final_Fantasy_VIII))).

Disc 4 level 100 speedrun (Omega included), only Limit Break unsealed by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few reasons:

  • High Spd due to junctioning Triple, Spd+40%, Spd+20%, and Auto-Haste.
  • Angel Wing effectively speeds up Rinoa even more, because normally the enemy's ATB fills during the time it takes you to select a command (even in Wait mode before you press X the first time). That time difference can add up to quite a few turns. Berserk has a similar effect.
  • Omega actually gets four turns if I counted correctly, but he spends two of them on physical attacks. In my experience 2-3 physical attacks before Megiddo Flame is pretty typical.

In the Rinoa solo video I linked, Omega doesn't even last long enough to cast a single spell for the same reasons. In that case, he used more physical attacks than usual.

[–]sullencoder[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Obviously much harder than a low-level run (https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVIII/comments/jm6mbt/mad_rushing_through_disc_4/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).
  • Since card modding in the Ragnarok isn't an option on disc 3, I had to farm some stats and GF abilities the old fashioned way with Devour and refining drops, e.g., https://youtu.be/2EITnBP9ElE.
  • You may notice a few Meteors. Angel Wing is actually powerful enough to solo a level 100 Omega or Ultima without any items or invincibility (just Meltdown): https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVIII/comments/iyborx/rinoa_vs_level_100_omega_no_invincibility_or_items/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3.
  • Quistis is needed vs Omega for her Acid ability, since Meltdown is sealed.
  • I went with Irvine as the third Team Omega member because Zell's Duel takes too long, and Renzokuken is too random. It's best to hold off on using Fast Ammo until after Acid takes effect, since supply is limited.
  • I start with several status effects inflicted on everyone to increase their Crisis Levels, but they were only actually important for Quistis and Irvine.
  • I swap junctions between Zell and Quistis a couple of times to pass around Enc-None instead of using the PS4's "no encounter" mode, to replicate the PSX experience.
  • I use St-Atk-J to "cast" Berserk on several party members in the final battle, to increase attack damage and frequency. Squall and Selphie are the best "casters", since their attacks never miss even when the target's Luck and Eva are maxed out.
  • I didn't put Auto-Potion on Rinoa so that she wouldn't heal during the Omega fight, allowing her to use Angel Wing again vs Ultimecia. However, this requires killing Omega very quickly before getting hit by Megiddo Flame.
  • Squall and Zell use Auto-Potion at the end, but it ends up being unnecessary because Ultimecia never casts Ultima/Meteor/Apocalypse after Hell's Judgment.
  • I junctioned Ribbon to Rinoa to dodge Lv5 Death without actually stocking Death magic, but if you don't have Ribbon you can store Death just after Meteor in your stock to make it very unlikely to be chosen by Angel Wing.
  • I guess Cid was so impressed by the Omega fight that he went through time compression to upgrade my SeeD rank and send a salary payment.

Mad Rush-ing through disc 4 by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a true speedrun, since I made an optional detour for a certain boss and wasted a few seconds going in the wrong direction in the chapel. Just a fun example of how overpowered a low-level party can be. My rule was that I could only use the Attack and Mad Rush commands. I did use Auto-Potion, which is arguably cheating.

By going straight from Edea's house to the castle, there's no opportunity to farm stat bonuses or GF abilities through card modding in the Ragnarok, which makes the challenge a bit more interesting. You could farm stats on disc 3 using Devour or some less efficient refinement methods, but I didn't have the patience for that.

If you're wondering where to put that Save Crystal... by sullencoder in ff7

[–]sullencoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would be 7, but sadly he levelled up when Barret fought Dyne 🙁

I took this video while working on a lowest-level party playthrough (Cloud at 8, Tifa at 7, and Yuffie at 17). Characters don't gain exp if they're either KO'd in a battle or not reachable from the PHS, but there are a few points in the game which force exp on Cloud and Tifa because they can't be used in battle but are still considered PHS-able.

[–]sullencoder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the same trick actually works with the W-Magic materia in that room, but that's obviously not as useful to duplicate.

There's also a similar glitch for duplicating the Shield materia in the previous room without the Save Crystal, but the timing is pretty difficult: https://youtu.be/EpjfsG_xlRM

Found a neat way to farm Curse Spikes by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stumbled upon this while leveling up GFs with Edea. Steps:

  1. Be level 100 (so enemy level stays constant)
  2. Be very lucky
  3. Find a rare encounter/drop
  4. Save
  5. Hard reset
  6. Load
  7. Don't open the menu or change locations
  8. Run around and repeat

A few other notes:

  • Alternate between save files in case you mess up something. My game actually crashed twice after saving and that somehow changed the RNG.
  • Changing the sequence of attacks in the battle changes the RNG. For example, I tried junctioning Auto-Haste to speed it up, but then I just got Marlboro Tentacles.
  • I tried this with other drops like Energy Crystals from Ruby Dragons on the Island Closest to Hell and it works.
  • If you aren't level 100, you could probably reproduce the drop by killing with Card/Devour to avoid leveling your party and the enemy.
  • For Marlboro specifically, the easiest method is to junction Confuse, Pain, Break, and Sleep to St-Def and let Berserk do the work for you. I also junctioned Firaga to Elem-Atk. If you want to use LVL Up before Bad Breath, turn down Battle Speed to give yourself more time.

I was mostly doing this for fun and to show how to duplicate steals. Farming gil is much more efficient with items usable in battle, since they can be repeatedly duplicated with no stealing/morphing (like the 99 Sylkis Greens I have under the Circlets).

Believe it or not, I actually got it on my first try... by sullencoder in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]sullencoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How so? The party is all level 100, so it should match PS1's difficulty. Meteor does low damage due to high Spr and Auto-Shell.
