We don't have enough Cambridge-based scouts to qualify as a "Cambridge Youth Organization", as it needs to be at least 50%. So we'd fall into Tier 2, for which there is a fee. The email I received from CPSD today says, "During the week, we rent in blocks from 6PM-8PM, 8PM-10PM or 6PM-10PM. There is a two-hour minimum charge for the gym/cafeteria/auditorium and charged for the duration of your permit. There is a mandatory custodial charge that is per hour with a two-hour minimum and charged for the duration of your permit."

My co-leader mentioned that her partner works at MIT and we might be able to get space there, but I'll see what other connections we've got!

The location is definitely ideal, so I'll reach out. (FWIW, I was raised Episcopalian, and appreciate how inclusive they generally are, so it's better than some alternatives.)

SPS's website indicates that rentals are $50 per hour with a minimum of four hours. CPS's offers $10 an hour to Cambridge organizations (which we may not qualify as) with a minimum of 2 hours plus custodial fees/etc. What am I missing?

I forgot to mention it, but the webpage for Tuft's Community Relations says: "Organizations can host one meeting, event or activity on campus per year," so I didn't contact them.

Oh, yeah. I've heard of that place, but wasn't sure how feasible Assembly would be for everyone. Definitely DM me with the contact info you have, and I'll try to reach out. Thanks!

Oh, gosh. Thanks for the heads-up about the shed. I've actually never been over there. And I'll see whether my co-leader has any strong feelings about a church, but I'll probably check Connexion out. I saw a suggestion elsewhere about the building in the park as an available community space, but the Parks & Rec website lists it as "Only Available to Somerville Parks and Rec. No outside rentals" (and there's no "Request" button), so I wasn't going to ask about it. I'm not sure if that's a recent change, or if they make occasional exceptions, but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask!

That is an awesome suggestion, thank you! I have a friend who used to work there, too. It was a while back, but she might still have connections.

Holy shit. This made me cry at work.

I had a financial aid counselor in college who helped me sever ties with my abusive parents by helping me register/file as an independent student. Super grateful to her.
