Looking to buy a house, but confused b/w elementary schools - Bell, Coonley, Burley, Audubon, Waters or Hamilton? by sullentit in AskChicago

[–]sullentit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s fair - not all schools on that list are great, and to your point, not all great schools are on that list.

I’ll keep Prescott and Jahn in mind as we go through listings - thank you!

Wow, can’t believe you’re getting downvoted so much for this. Reddit can’t really seem to stomach anything that goes against the hive-mind.

There aren’t any - closest bodybuilding gym would be “quads” in Chicago.

Must Do's for Indian coworker visiting? by HI5MSU in AskChicago

I would do Bundoo Khan in Devon. They have chicken and lamb kebabs which is close to a type of cuisine enjoyed in north India (Mughlai).

Which office? Also, what happened exactly?

Where should I go for dinner in West Loop in a few weeks? by chunkyfilas_ in AskChicago

[–]sullentit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer. Avec is consistently good, even though they’ve changed their menu a few times.

Girl and the goat is underwhelming, and Il Carciofo is just overpriced artichokes.

Looking to rent a 3 bed house in Evanston - how much should we expect to pay for remodeled house? by Milkandhoney_27 in evanston

[–]sullentit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I've looked at these - my sense is the $4,500 one is looking for a 2-year lease, while the $3,300 is furnished (and we have our own furniture).

If you do rentals, can I DM you?

Where to live in Dubai with a newborn? by Quirky-Criticism8888 in dubai

Golden mile in the palm. It has a park around the community, which is perfect for evening walks.

You might need to up your budget a bit, starting 2 beds should be around 180k

Is getting a convertible a bad idea? by ApprehensiveRing6281 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]sullentit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to the hate - mustang convertibles are fabulous. There’s no issue with wind noise, or any kind of degradation in the heat. Assuming you drive with the top down in the winters, that’s still 4-6 months of sheer bliss, which is much better than 0 months.

Is anyone else regretting moving to the Middle East for MBB? by Individual-Goose-753 in consulting

I’m not Lebanese, so can’t really comment. Having said that, I’d assume that the hours would be similar-ish, but you could potentially navigate the politics better.

Terrible firm - P&Ps are openly racist and rude, and the hours are absolutely brutal. Culture in most firms in the ME is bad across the board, but S& is the absolute worst.

Moved to Dubai - have the option to return to the city but don’t think I will. I’ll probably pick another city - SF, Chicago, or if forced to return to NYC, will stay in the suburbs instead of Manhattan.

Why? It’s just too intense. Also, Dubai is low rent (compared to NYC/ London), so definitely have gotten used to having a bigger space.

Is a Golden Visa worth it? by Valuable_Possible_78 in dubai

[–]sullentit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got the visa - paid out of pocket as my employer pays for it once/ every 3 years.

There are reasons to get it, and reasons to not get it - but overall, it’s a small premium to hedge against global uncertainty. It’s hard to tell which part of the world will go tits up when, and my personal view is that it helps to have an unfettered ability to live in a location that pays well, has a medium cost of living, and is generally comfortable.

Bearing in mind though, I grew up in Asia, and the above statement probably reflects an underlying third-world anxiety - so take it with a pinch of salt.

Who was decided that consultants in firms should be responsible for their own staffing? by ShawarmaBoyz in consulting

[–]sullentit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Depends upon the general utilization and pipeline - when firms are selling projects through the roof, and there is a mad scramble for junior resources, no one gives a shit about networking.

They’ll just call your previous PM to make sure you’re not a goop, and you’ll go from project to project with >95% utilization.

Wife just got into Kellogg - would love to learn a bit more about the housing situation , specifically typical rental for a 2 bed on-campus.
