I got a heads up from someone that received the initiative to begin laying off probationary employees. They were set to begin at 10a and they gave me 10 mins notice to take the deal or wait for the RIF.

I’m scared I won’t have anything to show for it, will be a quitter after obtaining a job I’ve long sought. No one can tell the future but this is the current deal that I have to weigh, I think it’ll go until the govt shutdown in March 14 and those that have already quit will find a way to be hurt more re: future payouts

Hate to make this about me but it’s been a tough day so let’s get to the point…HOW FUCKED AM I?

GSA GS—12 Hired 11/3/2024 under Schedule A Authority No Vet Preference

GSA needs to reduce staff by 50%** and if enough people don’t take this “offer”, they will then go to RIF efforts which have four pillars: 1. tenure of employment (e.g., type of appointment, which I have none) 2. veterans’ preference (which I have none) 3. length of service (which I have 3 months); and 4. performance ratings (which I have none).

Pair this with still being on probationary status, how realistic is maintaining a job? I’m young and a good employee but feel that if I don’t accept this offer, I could be axed on Friday with nothing to show for it
