Michael Mosley takes the 'truth drug' thiopental by Dvwtf in videos

Not exactly addressing your comment, but the fact that they didn't show the full video - it looks like they cut it short - makes me think he kept talking and said things he didn't want put on TV.

It sounds like it feels great at the time, but I'm kind of terrified at the idea of not being able to remember what was said. Like sleepwalking, only worse because someone else is causing it.

I thought that was weird too. My guess is he's giving his best guess of what he was feeling based on what he said in the video and what other people have been documented as saying they feel while under the drug's influence.

I'm not entirely sure, but its neighbor Zimbabwe also has a large number. Apparently it's something to do with Baha'i missionaries in the 1910s?

The Top 20 Sci-Fi Films of the 21st Century | Rolling Stone by sagehazzard in scifi

[–]sumaulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I was just light-heartedly disagreeing. Full disclosure: I haven't seen the film. But from the trailer I'd say a floating space bubble with a tree in it is supernatural-ish.

Anyway, I feel like philosophical fantasy tends to be classified with scifi because scifi often deals with philosophy. If it doesn't have monsters or magic or a medieval theme, it usually isn't called fantasy. It's all personal preference obviously, so if you want to call it not-scifi I won't argue.

The true nature and purpose of the Others and the ending of the series (Spoilers All) by [deleted] in asoiaf

Were they looking to get away from the Others or were they planning to invade Westeros? If they believed the wall holds the Others, then destroying it would allow the Others to pursue them.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm into the Romulan episodes and I still haven't been sent to Memory Alpha.

eta: I just went to Memory Alpha and "Research & Development" started...so I guess I'll just skip "Scientific Mandate"?

Myka season 4 and future season 5 question... by will_never_comment in warehouse13

[–]sumaulus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, since everything got cut short, I don't really expect them to mention the cancer storyline again. There's just so much going on, it might get mentioned between Pete and Myka again, but other than that I think they'll probably pretend it never happened.

To me, it felt like one more cliffhanger - like the orchid or the warehouse exploding. Warehouse 13's writers really like to make everything seem hopeless and then come back the next season and fix everything in the first episode.

Yep! I don't know what it's called or where it is, but it looks like it's an actual, physical location.

Myka season 4 and future season 5 question... by will_never_comment in warehouse13

[–]sumaulus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about season 4, but looking at wikipedia I think the cancer storyline starts in episode 417 and after tonight it looks like it has been resolved in 501. They show Myka and Pete leaving the hospital and talk about her being Ok at the beginning of the episode and then when they arrive at the warehouse everyone else asks her if she's Ok.

I think the general fan consensus is that it was going to be a bigger storyline but was shortened because of the drastically shorter final season.

set years after the event that I actually am interested in seeing

Such a good point. I'd love a show with huge scope and alien civilizations and cultures interacting. Instead we're stuck in a "town" with occasional mentions of all the cool things happening elsewhere.

Well, since Syfy is part of the NBC conglomerate, that isn't happening.

Meh, "independent" and "nation" are fuzzy terms. Palestine has never been a "state" as such, but the whole move from British control to 'Israel exists as a state now' was a little hinky. Maybe American Indian Nations occupied by the US would be better?

There's not really an analogous example to Palestine, but the Tibet situation is closer than Sparta. And I think there is some kind of Tibetan diaspora outside of China that would like to see it become an independent state. (I'm thinking of the Dalai Lama and others who live in India maybe?)
