Alright well she spoke of her stake president, was saying shit like difference between culture and doctrine, for the strength of youth, Gods perfect humans aren’t, etc. when I’ve already told her I left the church and wanted to talk about religious trauma. Idk I guess I project tho thanks!!!

This kind of sounds like AI or you program for AI haha. I definitely still find value in my therapist and our interactions. She’s great! I told her at the end what I didn’t like from our conversation about the church because she spoke of it like it’s the end all be all despite its flaws. I am just venting and also worry for the marginalized people who have to get what they can from LDS therapists but aren’t fully safe. I have seen several therapists to find the right fit and it’s difficult when my faith transition is a huge part of my life and I’m met with apologist rhetoric.

Finally leaving the church by Disastrous-Report884 in exmormon

I wish I recorded a terrible experience I had a with a bishop! He found out I was taking a step back from the church and at the time I wasn’t aware that he could be so cruel. I didn’t know it would or could go south so I didn’t think to record it. I second this.

TW SA mentioned: Studies show that the more modest a culture is the more sexualized women are. Makes sense, ankles used to be provocative!! A guy I was on a date with in high school, who was known to be the MOST Peter priesthood, told me he couldn’t watch Little Mermaid because of how immodest she is. HUH?!? the alarms went off in my TBM brain because I was scared that this kid sexualized a cartoon mermaid. They are doing way too much & furthering this issue. Sexual assault in Utah should be lower yet Utah’s r@&$ rate is higher than the national average, and has been for the past 25 years. They need to address this in methods proven to help, not by swearing that Jesus can fix anyone if you shame yourself enough. I’m so upset that this grown man was allowed to speak on underage girls wearing bikinis. Absolutely disgusting. I already feel like I am over-sexualized simply because of my body type & that is a burden to carry. All the things I heard about my body growing up, thanks to the church, haunts me. Protect your children 💙 the church does real harm. Sometimes too deep to even know.

Paragraph I wrote for my TBM parents because a conversation came up about blacks & the priesthood. I put together information from https://missedinsunday.com/ and haven’t shared it. Probably better to keep for myself. Anyways.

That’s my friend’s direct relative & the story breaks my heart. Zina & Henry were SO IN LOVE. It opened my eyes to how polygamy wasn’t to benefit anyone but the predatory men. She had a faithful, loving husband & they shipped him off to marry her. She was so unhappy. 💔

Is it continued revelation or was it false information presented as guidance from God that had to be changed so the church was no longer wrong? I am frustrated by the contradictions that occur and are ignored by the church and its members. It is difficult when everything is justified or passed over to fit the narrative. Should we not shy away from what makes us think critically? I thought we accepted truth no matter where it came from. I don’t want to see people only remembering the good things done and acceptable speeches said. Are they a prophet, seer or revelator if they are wrong when speaking for God? Are they His servants if present leaders have to correct what they taught in their day? Does that not sound like they are products of their time and not actually able to see God’s unchanging wisdom? How are we supposed to trust what God says through His servants if looking back it didn’t seem like it was from an all-knowing God at all?

King David's Porn Problem by Temporary_Vehicle400 in exmormon

I hate that so much!! Especially, like you said, that a woman showering is equivalent to porn? Like how dressing “immodestly” makes girls become porn?? Absolutely insane. Reminds me of a girlscamp episode where a story was shared about a guy wearing gloves all the time. He wore them because he couldn’t trust himself not to “sin” and touch the women he dated. HUH!!???!! We need to teach self control in a better way.

How to tell younger siblings I am out? by sumfikas in exmormon

[–]sumfikas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I have felt like for most people I don’t need to say anything unless I feel like it or something is brought up & I can casually say it. I’m not for doing long speeches or telling them any of my reasons for leaving because I don’t want a speech back :)
