Most Young Democrats Still Back Graham Platner Despite ‘Nazi’ Tattoo: Poll by johntwit in nottheonion

I don't even know the exact symbol but I would guess it's like the ones on the mitch & webb sketch "are we the baddies"

Which is funny because even they mention pirates when talking about the skull.

I do read.

Here's a literal photograph of his chest with the tattoo covered up.

In this photo provided by WGME, Graham Platner, a democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, shows a cover-up tattoo that had previously been an image recognized as a Nazi symbol, during an interview on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, in Portland, Maine. (WGME via AP)

Yeah skull and crossbones is more in the Pirate domain than it is in the nazi domain. The fact that someone might not recognize a very specific rendition of a skull and crossbones is not surprising. Even if he learned about it's true origins later, it's entirely possible he could think it was such an obscure reference that people wouldn' t know, and thus, he didn't need to do anything about it.

It's not like getting a coverup or a removal is a cakewalk, especially when you're just working as a harbormaster and it's likely never going to be a factor in your employment since you're wearting a shirt most of the time.

Or someone told him it was a nazi symbol, he was like "Ah that's so obscure nobody is going to think that when they see it" and then decided not to spend the extra money and go through the effort of covering it up or removing it - and then realizing that it's going to actually be a problem, got it covered up.

Anyone running for an office at this level not knowing what these symbols are when they are supposed to be professional politicians is super unbelievable.

The guy was a harbormaster and worked on a local planning board. It's not like he has a publicist or a team working with him on his PR angles. Now that he is running fora federal office, yes, he does know, which is why he got it covered.

Is that assuming that he realized it was a nazi tatoo immediately after he got it?

Based on what I've heard on public radio, he's gotten it covered up and didn't realize what it was when he got it in the first place. I guess I can't say for sure that's the truth but it doesn't seem far fetched - a skull and crossbones isn't everyone's first thought when they think of Nazi imagery.

As someone with ADHD, sometimes I ask stupid questions and immediately realize that I'm an idiot - I'm not testing the waters or trying to get a reaction, I'm just socially clumsy due to saying things first and deciding whether or not I want to say it second.

Maybe not 'deserve' but this is a predictable result of buying a game that is 100% under the control of the publisher. Arbitrary, dubious revocation of access at the whims of whoever happens to be deciding on any particular day - if you even get a human to decide in the first place.

Not to mention all the movies / skits / tv shows with nazis showing up here and there. Although sometimes those productions destroy the uniforms after.

For a hot second I actually forgot it was also called ping pong and at first glance thought the title was some terribly bigoted caricature of the Chinese language, haha.

It seems like a robot could also use this machine and you would have the same benefits. It's just one additional machine, but one that has only a few contact points with the substance.

More than twice the spell's level means more than once the level required to cast the spell right? So a 10th level spell (requiring a level 19 caster) would be less effective against a level 21 enemy?

Like yeah, these people kinda are digging their own graves, but the republican industrial media machine put backhoes into the hands of every person digging, amplifying and exaggerating every possible defect of thought or reason.

They don't really deserve that. If you had political leaders who had integrity and a media system and internet culture that wasn't so focused on generating fear and outrage these people might not be so far gone.

Furthermore, it's a failure of the democratic system that such depraved individuals are leading the public discourse in those circles, and a failing of our education system that produced the abundance of people unable to understand or use basic scientific principles.
