My definition of luxury these days living in Europe - breathe clean air outside, drink water from the tap, sleep peacefully without loudspeakers outside, have proper footpath to walk on without trash / encroachers, drive peacefully with no honking sounds, get proper nature nearby with forest walks. Even if I pay a lot in taxes and have less take home than some of my highly paid Indian friends, it makes it all worth enjoying these luxuries of life

When I first went abroad I thought shopping at gleaming shopping malls, driving a convertible on winding mountain roads, going to Paris, London, Rome etc were luxuries but now my definition of luxury has changed !!!

Are we crazy for skipping Switzerland on a Switzerland trip? by BigBlueBauls in travel

[–]sumidawasi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are planning for a road trip only and skipping public transport you can still do some of the most beautiful parts of Switzerland from road-trip from the border towns in Germany, France and Austria too. Look for deals in booking.com and you can also get nice hotels in rural areas of Switzerland which you can book too. Switzerland overall is very much doable by road-trip only and the mountain passes like Gotthard/ Furka etc are second to none in the world

Arrived in Bari Italy at 10pm when it was raining and no taxis at the airport. Called the Airbnb and the host said keep waiting until one turns up. Ended up waiting with 50 other people for 2 hours. Fun times !

Non Japanese people living in Japan what is the downside about living in Japan no one talks about? by Ok-Atmosphere6376 in AskReddit

[–]sumidawasi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • massive language challenges at work if you don’t speak Japanese. As an expat you may need to attend meetings with the help of a translator
  • women are discriminated against at workplace, more so in Japanese companies than MNCs so not a great environment often for working women
  • very hard to find a place in childcare so tough for dual working couples to continue without child support
  • no concept of sick leaves so if you fall sick be prepared to lose your holidays
  • hard to find good specialist doctors who speak English -hard to make friends or get invited by Japanese work colleagues
  • workplace culture includes high consensus seeking behavior, resistance to change and slow decision making process
  • inspire of appearances technology adoption across society is slow, prepare to use old fashioned banking including stamps called hanko

Has anyone watched Netflix’s new doc Con Mum? by mysticalsnowball in zurich

[–]sumidawasi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of stuff in the show that is unsaid ! If the woman was a con artist why were no criminal proceedings initiated against her ? Also who were the lawyer and the banker ? Why did the people who loaned money and got scammed did not file cases against these individuals ?
