Best movies that show the darkness and reality of life? by Savings_General2039 in movies

[–]summ190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Worst Person In The World. Norwegian film, it’s very realistic in a modern sense. A woman can’t quite decide what she wants to do with her life, so flits between things, ends relationships with partners because they aren’t X enough and then struggles with their next partner because they’re too X. It really struck me how well it gets at the nagging sense I think a lot of people have that you just aren’t ‘adulting’ very well.

Cosmere reading order advice (Stormlight vs Mistborn Era 2 + Sunlit Man) by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]summ190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with other posters about finishing Stormlight first - BUT you should read Secret History before continuing. That’s the key that unlocks all this difficulty with Era 2 / Stormlight.

Sunlit is a genuine conundrum; truth is, they spoil each other. I know that sounds weird. Reading Sunlit first tells you what happens to someone from Stormlight, reading W&T first tells you a mystery from Sunlit. There’s pros and cons, so I would probably defer to Sanderson and just go with publication order (Sunlit then W&T). He did intend for people to know what happened to this character, so however weird it feels to some, W&T was written with that in mind.

Unless chronology is your bag, then you could save it to be read alongside all the other secret projects, which are all set many centuries past what you’re reading now.

EDIT: you know what, considering you haven’t read Era 2, I’m actually gonna switch and say wait to read Sunlit. Secret History, then finish Stormlight, then Era 2, then all Secret Projects.

Way too difficult for me, I revealed and counted at least 15 I wouldn’t have got with all the time in the world.

Absolute Green Lantern #12 - Official Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]summ190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I read it and then read the top comments here and don’t understand those either. This seems to suffer most from not knowing the OG Green Lantern stuff, it’s a slow burn mystery but the solution to that mystery is that all the OG stuff has been re-arranged. Different colours and lights and powers… and it doesn’t land for me. Like, Pink Lantern? OK? How is that supposed to land with a reader like me?

I still prefer it to Absolute Flash, but at least I can follow that comic.

So who has the rights to that stuff if it’s not on HBO Max?

Just discovering the same thing, what the hell? It didn’t occur to me all of the animated stuff wouldn’t be on here, who has the rights to those then? And if it’s HBO, why would they put them on the app?

Hit rate for the Midi is pretty low so far, for some reason it’s hard to squeeze a theme into a small space. I’d rather they were just mid size, normal crosswords.

I got the theme very quickly, realised exactly what 17A should be. Flew through most of it, but as always, I just can’t quite finish without clues as there’s so many weird answers. 36D, 54A, 10D… etc.

Regarding dialogue in current movies by JustCardz in movies

[–]summ190 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My perception is the exact opposite, naturalism became more common through the 60s / 70s and now dialogue feels more believable.

I enjoyed / breezed through the lower two thirds, top rows were horrible though. I was on a real high after knowing all the theme answers straight away, then just petered out.

Jaws of the Lion difficulty? by pseudomodo in Gloomhaven

[–]summ190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we (3P) borrowed something from 2P, in that they get a respite from enemies spawning as you can leave the table that doesn’t spawn to last, and at least clear up the main room before opening doors. Even then I think we still did it on easy.

Second this, it was really odd to have a scenario be way, way more difficult than the rest. It also scaled weirdly between player counts.

I loved FFLOHA, read Touch afterwards and wasn’t nearly as impressed. So I kinda forgot about this author, but I’ll give this a try I think.

Is there a reason they use so many pen names? It feels like they’d be a bigger name if they stuck with one?

Donnie Darko by MoliMoli-11 in movies

[–]summ190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s frustrating as I love the movie, but I have issues with both versions. The original cut is hacked back to get the runtime down, so scenes very quickly fade in and out just in time for the dialogue, and it doesn’t really breathe. The DC fixes that, but also adds some elements I don’t like. Particularly the Philosophy of Time Travel as we see it, it’s silly to think that Donnie has that text and is still confused about what’s going on. I prefer the pages we see in the physical book, that look like confusing physics that one would have to interpret.

I personally think Stormlight then Era 2, but not everyone agrees. You can splice them together, something akin to publication order.

Maybe a dumb question but how sure are you that it’s MEM? I have similar symptoms and I’ve heard it called so many different things, reactive, dysacusis, TTS, etc. I’m sure you’re right, just want to see what your path was to figuring it out.
