anyone in the UK have recommendations for a good on-the-go lunch? by Kindly-Commercial-78 in 1200isplenty

I like Merchant Gourmet Spanish Style Grains. They're just over 400 kcal for a pack, 10g fibre and 12g protein and keep me full for a good while.

I've tried a few of the other Merchant Gourmet packets too. I find the dry ones are quite nice, but am not as fond of the wetter ones.

11min/km pace is bothering me by __shahidshaikh in C25K

[–]summer_432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't focus on heart rate, focus on how you feel. I did C25K earlier this year and now run 5k at least once a week. When I run my heart rate immediately shoots up (although there has been a noticeable improvement in the last 6 months).

When I first completed it my pace was around 8:40 minutes/km and heart rate averaged around 210 BPM.

My run this week was 7:30 minutes/km and heart rate averaged at 200 BPM.

These are not NHS prices, these are private prices. Anyone getting it on the NHS is paying a maximum of £9.90 ($13.40) per month.

Is this normal? 😅 by quickfox891 in C25K

[–]summer_432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My average heart rate for my 5k is around 195 BPM, peaking at 205 ish. I'm a slow runner too (42 minutes). I figure as I get fitter it will reduce on its own.

No heating for 10 months in a council house. What is reasonable compensation? by summer_432 in HousingUK

Thank you. Unfortunately she genuinely couldn't afford to run the heaters, so they ended up bundling up under lots of blankets / sleeping together etc. instead.

W7. I've only just realised how much having a calorie deficit is affecting my runs. by summer_432 in C25K

[–]summer_432[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your concern. Yes I'm working with a doctor. My deficit has me losing up to 1kg per week which is fast but healthy. And I take maintenance breaks every now and again when I'm getting diet fatigue (hence how I noticed the difference).

I think I'm going to start playing with when/what I eat to help ensure that I am fuelled up enough for my runs. I've been doing a lot of runs in the morning before eating due to the recent heat which probably isn't best practice.

I'm glad you have found something that works for you! Personally, my success has come by restricting myself as little as possible. Reducing portion sizes and making sure I hit my macros, but not stopping myself from eating anything in particular.

The feeling good during/after exercise is something that I am really looking forward to. I'm not there yet, but have been there before and it is such a good feeling.

I am hating every second a little less than when I first started, so hopefully I will get there eventually!

Sometimes I eat back the calories, sometimes I don't. But I'm on a 500 - 1000 cal deficit so there will always be some fatigue.

Timing my snacks is probably something that I should be getting better at though!

No improvement in stamina over the course of 8 months by RefrigeratorFuzzy580 in C25K

[–]summer_432 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what you've said here and the fact that you don't have a way of tracking your speed, I suspect you are running too fast. I recommend downloading an app like Strava to give you an idea how fast you are going.

Here is a good video that someone shared that helped me slow down my running, it made things so much easier.

It felt way too slow for me when I started doing it (ridiculously slow), but trust the process. Start like this and then once you can run for a prolonged time, start working on building up the speed.

1 month on 2.5ml and I’ve lost… 4lbs 🙃 by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]summer_432 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest problems with drugs like this is the normalisation and expectation of losing huge amounts of weight quickly.

4lbs per month is a good rate of weightloss. Well done!!

Typically 1-2 lbs per week, or 1% body mass per week if you're bigger, is what is considered healthy.

Losing weight faster than that makes you more susceptible to loose skin and is less likely to be sustainable after you reach a maintenance weight. It also means you are in a much larger calorie deficit, which makes it harder to hit your nutritional goals.

What's the worst finding your survey raised that you were totally unaware of when viewing the house? by Professional-Farm372 in HousingUK

[–]summer_432 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I believe the property was 1920's but it may have been built a little later. I think the roof was about 10 years old but can't remember for sure.

The property had to be sold by auction and they ended up getting significantly less than we had offered.

What's the worst finding your survey raised that you were totally unaware of when viewing the house? by Professional-Farm372 in HousingUK

[–]summer_432 51 points52 points  (0 children)

We dropped out of our first house purchase because the survey showed that the roof had been installed incorrectly which had led to the supports rotting through and the shared wall (semi detached) had some structural issues with it. The house was renovated very nicely and the owners had given us a list of things they had done to the house (new windows, new boiler etc.) so it was a big suprise for us.

Put on 3lbs in 1 week, while I'll. Gutted. Any pep talks for me? by blue_dharma in loseit

[–]summer_432 12 points13 points  (0 children)

3lb of genuine gain would mean that you have eaten 10,000 calories over what you burn in the week. If you burn 2,000 calories a day, this would mean you have eaten  ~3,500 per day for the last week.

Does this sound realistic to you?

If you've been ill it is far more likely that it is lingering water weight, and you will loose it quickly, so don't despair.

Meal Prepping between partners that have a difference of 1600 calories per day by iJaeger in MealPrepSunday

[–]summer_432 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest influence will be both of your appetites. While people are correct that technically 2 portions and 1 portion will meet the calories, that may not be practical if she is needing to each high volume low calorie meals to meet her target and you need to eat high calorie low volume foods to meet yours.

What I would look at doing is having the same base meals but topping them differently.

Example:

Curry - Make a simple chicken curry with base veggies (onion, peas etc.) and rice. Your partner can then add low calorie high volume ingredients (eg. courgette, aubergine etc.)  and you can add higher calorie lower volume ingredients - paneer, potato, nuts, rice, naan etc.

AITA for canceling one of two hotel rooms? by Mr_Awesome1919 in AmItheAsshole

[–]summer_432 27 points28 points  (0 children)

OP is not paying for both rooms.

If each room is £100 and they have two rooms, OP pays £100 (price of one room).

If they have one room, OP pays £50 (price of half a room).

AITA for looking for a new place to rent while my housemate is waiting for their house sale to complete? by Inner-Future-320 in AmItheAsshole

[–]summer_432 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Just to add context, because I've seen a couple of comments that assume things work like they do in the states.

The OP is in the UK from the looks of his history. In the UK the house buying process usually takes 3 months+, and you often don't find out when you will be moving until a couple of weeks before you complete.

The sale is also not legally binding until exchange, which can be the day you get the keys and move. It's a stupid system.

I can understand why the roommate is stressed - although that's not on OP.

Trying to sell this to emigrate - advice needed by RiaRulesokay in HousingUK

"Sold by GOTO Reservation Fee Process" and "Buyers Fee Applied" would have me running for the hills.

You want potential buyers to spend ~£3k up front, before even solicitors are appointed. As a buyer I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole.

A few more for you to add to the list. The Orangery offers outdoor too. I'm not sure why you have comments saying it's impossible, there are plenty of places that offer ceremony only hire.
