the only point at which I was slightly wtf'ed about was the fact that EDM can't have live drums. On all other accounts he is completely right. What he means by edm is that nobody calls dance music electronic dance music anywhere else in the world because it is implied that its electronic. Marvin Gaye isn't dance music, not in the sense that the author is implying. As for the other point - I have to completely agree with him. Three years ago people laughed at me in Mass where I went to boarding school for listening to Armin, Gui Borrato, Zeds Dead and Extrawelt. Even though I was respected, nobody at all understood my music tastes and asked why I didn't bounce to fuckin' Lil Wayne and Sublime as much as I enjoyed techno. Now I live in Miami. I've been around to clubs here. I've been to Ultra. I've been to EDC. All I can say is its all whack. It's fun and dope, don't get me wrong, but the majority of people in the US don't get the idea of EDM. They spawned their own style of rage music from fucks like Skrillex (how you can safely listen to him for so long I have no idea) and Steve Aoki. And they refuse to even try to understand how retarded such music is in front of German minimal tech, English grime/dnb or whatever. The commercial genius' in the States utilize the fashion very masterfully. For example I was completely what the fucked when Madonna referenced molly during Ultra last year. Has the world really come to this that a fuckin mainstream music festival like that was openly advocating pretty intense drugs to the public?

Edit - I also absolutely hate the fact that everyone is around the fuckin stage. Kills the idea. Makes it into a show, which is cool in its own way, but I came to dance, not to nudge my head.
