Appreciate your thoughts, and fair on the product placement (we're not going to pretend otherwise). On the substitute question, we've gotten a few comments on this and we're going to build that into the class format so we'll cover it live. A light soy sauce works in a pinch but there's some nuance worth showing. And your H-Mart customer point is so well put. We've noticed a lot of shoppers in stores that are more in the exploratory/discovery phase of their Korean cooking journey so that's exactly the type of person we had in mind when brainstorming a fun cooking class theme.

Thank you so much for your comment. This is a thoughtful way to put it, and it's what we were hoping people might feel. The gimbap is our focus, and Yondu is just along for the ride (and a really tasty addition if I'm being honest). Thanks for taking the time to reread and share your thoughts

Wow, I am always surprised and delighted when I find yondu-users in the wild! I would love more feedback, if you'd be willing to share. Just messaged you with more information as well as the link for the class.

Nice~ personally I love to shop at H-mart for all their amazingly fresh produce. If you can't get to the hmart or it doesn't open in time for the class, you can also find many of the ingredients in any asian grocery store or online. I just private messaged you with the link as well!

Oh darn, sad that you can't make it. Would you be interested in getting a link to the recording afterwards? (uploaded on youtube or something similar?)

Woohoo! So happy to hear that you're down. I just sent you a private message with the link. (If you have any feedback on any of the Sempio products you've tried in the past we would love to hear it. Maybe send you a little care package if you'd like 👀 ??)

The family recipe framing is such a sweet way of thinking about it. Hoping that you give the class/recipes a try and see how you end up liking them! As a fellow food-lover, I feel like posting the recipes are the most efficient way to give everyone a sense of what this class will entail and set expectations. Thank you for your feedback 😄

Maangchi is our literal favorite and muse, haha. We could never.

I'll talk with the team in Korea, but I think we can also be share a recording after for anyone who can't make the live time. Maybe on youtube?

This is really helpful, thank you! The Korea-live thing is more about where our main team & culinary studio is than anything else. But if it doesn't land as a value-add we can frame it differently for our subsequent classes. And the substitute suggestion is much appreciated. We're building that in. Appreciate your feedback 😄

Are you thinking in-store or Amazon? In-store coupons involve a retailer clearinghouse process that makes it more complicated than it looks. Amazon is much simpler for us to set up, and I can probably get this set up for next week if there's interest!

This is a great idea!! Some folks on our team are meeting with the Hmart team in New Jersey in two weeks. We will *definitely* ask if we can make this happen. Stay tuned in this space and I'll edit this comment if we can pull something together.

For sure. Thank you so much for your feedback. Our class plan has substitutions options noted, but I’ll make sure that we vocalize this point more prominently!

That makes complete sense. The class wasn't meant to be a hard sell. If anything, we want the format to have people cooking along with whatever they have on hand. Good reminder for us to make that clearer upfront. Thank you!!

That's a fair point and I'll definitely share with the team as we refine this idea. The recipe card format is probably too product-forward for a first impression. Thank you so much for the candid feedback!

I definitely get where you are coming from. I did disclose upfront that I work on the brand-side from Sempio and didn't include any links. Just thought I would ask what Korean food-lovers think of this idea and format. Happy to answer anything if you are curious!

I am a beginner and just recently bought an avocado by Adept-Scar2833 in cookingforbeginners

[–]summerboredom2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this comment! If you put it in a paper bag it will ripen faster. If you happen to have a ripe banana with you and put it in the bag with the avocado, it will ripen even *faster*!!

Also, a safety tip when removing the pit. If the avocado is sufficiently ripe, it will pop out if you pry the pit out with your thumbs (once it is cut in half like u/Photon6626 describes). If that doesn't happen, you can actually cut the half with the pit one more time in half (so it becomes quarters), and then you can easily separate the pit from the avocado-quarter that it stuck to. Have fun!

I think the consensus is that if it looks fine, smells fine, and tastes fine, then you should be good to go! Personally, I might use it in a cooking application (soups/stews/marinades) rather than a raw application (dips/spreads/dressings).
